Fishing for Whiting

I've been away from sea fishing seriously for about 10 years and even then it was really only during the summer months. The problem I have is that there is no one fishing in my area (Kilkeel Co.Down) from the shores so its all new teritory.

I had tried a local rock mark one November and had about a dozen Whiting to around the 2lb mark but as I said that was over 10 years ago, I remember it being a flat calm night and I think I was using Mackerel strips but that's all I recall.

I'd really like to have a crack at these again but I haven't a clue what type of tides, weather, technique or baits to use, any friendly advice would be welcome.

2 lbs'ers are crackers, do not expect the same results these days. whiting will eat anything but fish baits usually do best for me. they can be caught in the day but a cold crisp night is most conducive to numbers. tide is really mark Dependant, some fish on the ebb some on the flood, whiting will usually hang around during most of the tide cycle though. good luck!
