long rods

Seen those articles in Sea Angler recently suggesting that longer rods can enable the c**p caster to cast further without bothering to learn a decent technique? Well, it works! I bought a cheapo (but well made) Ron Thompson 14 footer, employed my usual basic overhead thump, and now after decades of trying to convince myself I can pass 100 yards with a following wind, I really can! Incidentally, all these longer rods seem to be designed for use with a fixed spool, but I use a multiplier and it worked just fine. Now tempted to try one of the Shakespeare 16 footers...

I cant help it but i like the Ron Thompson rods.... The 14 footer you have, can you write the full name of it?? what did it cost you?

hi Fogelberg It's the 'Zensorflex', their cheapest range I think, and it cost me £29. Compared to more expensive rods it has a rather soft 'through' action and quite a thick tip, but it's still a decent enough rod and very very good for the money.
