I'm not a Conger angler but I do know they can be caught in certain piers.

General bait is mack/squid on a size 7/0+ hook pennel rig.
You don't need to cast at all.

Dont know if you could get down...(Whats a man from Offaly doing Sea Angling!!! :D ) But the marina in Dingle always produces on a rising tide after dark.Try using a size 4/0 with a wire trace and the head + guts of a Mackerel.Good Luck!!

personnaly I'd fish with a single hook as getting a pennel rig out of a congers mouth would be a nightmare ,its hard enough getting 1 hook out ,also tend to fish with 8/0 bronzed O'shanessy , it rots away quickly if you have to leave the hook in the fish and the bigger size gives you something to grip when unhooking (use pliers or a T bar ) and the hook point wont get masked by the bait .
Heavy mono is better for your trace material 150lb minimum, though I've been broken by 20lb congers as they spin a bit when hooked and their teeth make a hell of a mess of the trace .
I dont know of anymarks near you but any pier with working fishing boats usually has a few conger knocking around ,also deep water rock marks with alot of kelp will hold fish ,using fresh bait caught in the area ie. pouting ,poorcod, coalie is normally a good bet as well .
If someone shows you a mark to fish, respect it and dont pass it of as one of your own, dont tell every man and his dog about it.

i'm like ronald on this although i tend to used doubled 130lb mono and 7/0 sakuma manta extra's. a like a big hook as i find i get a much better hook hold and tend not to get hooked deeper

Monsters do give good fights and they will prevent small fish from eating it.
Besides 4/0 is what i used for rays.
