New Multiplier

At the suggestion of various members and given the magazines will run a mile from criticising a piece of kit, here is your chance to tell us what you really think about a rod, reel, line, lure... keep it legal please!

Why would i need to remove the levelwind anyway? I'm not really going for a 200yard+ cast usually. It won't seem to take effect on my fishing anyway.

There are two problems with level winds, one is that the shockleader knot can stick in them, using tapered leaders cures that problem though they are expensive. The second problem is that the top crossbar makes it almost impossible to get a good grip of the spool as you cant get your thumb over it for a better grip when wet or casting heavier leads.

Hope this helps

depends on the size of your hand mate, they may fit a levelwind, but in a few years you may have trouble gripping the spool as the level-wind gets in the way, besides shock-leader knots have a habit of catching in the level-wind as does weed, which can lose you a fish or you crack-off and lose all your terminal gear and your reel birdies

now that's just my opinion and what i have found out from using both ct and cs versions of reels, but its down to personal preference, but as Lee said come up to a casting meet and try a few reels, i have 7hts, abu rocket, mag elite, and a older c3 with a level-wind and you can try them all if you want

I am a lightweight caster and I do not use shockleader often(it snapped(i hit a lampost on a pier) and i never fixed it) although why not trim the not (or the other way round). I will probably just get Mckees to remove the levelwind
and the top crossbar

just get a reel without a levelwind if your going to remove the gearing for it and the top bar, it will be cheaper in the long run

I think Tony's Tackle were selling them off for £70, probably £5 post and packing on top.

these sites seem to have a few left and there is only a few pounds between them, cheaper than getting a new cage and paying for the work to be done

i think there are on the beach this weekend.. they also have a field where they cast every other week which has a proper tournament court so you can see exactly how far you cast....times i will check.
