Time spent fishing is never time wasted...
2015 targets - a triggerfish, a specimen bass, a three bearded rockling to complete the set and something big and toothy from certain north Mayo deep water marks

Fishing into the Channel
Hi,
You can get the odd coddling at the spot you mentioned. The last time I fished it, two of us had about 3 small coddling (~20cm), returned. It looks like the perfect place with a deep channel fast moving water. In the right conditions you could get lucky. I would use crab if you could get it, fish it in darkness from the rocks in front of the Yacht club from low water up.
I believe that the place just does not get fished for reliable information. You should get the odd decent coddling but nothing like other venues down south.

yacht club
Hi Kieran
Yeah, the rocks just below the yacht club are the place and remarkably they produce the odd thornback as well. Had one around 6 lbs a few years back just at dusk to sandeel. Sea trout in the channel too but off season now and in season you will need a licence, fairly small stuff...
You need to fish just on the margin of the sand and rocks for the round fish, and well out into the channel for the flats. Big tide at night might produce a keeper...
Are you heading up this direction over the Christmas?
Cheers

NW Coddling
Kieran You have mail.

We are talking about the mouth of the Garryvogue River at Rosses Point. There is another mark just left of the Yacht club where the Channel passes very close to the shore, easily identified by a channel marker. As kieran said you can pick up good flats here. Your unlikely to get a lunker but should get the odd keeper as mentioned. Should be coalies there aswell but have never seen any, but again its not fished enough to know.
