new rod??

#1 Post by lumpy »

as i snapped the tip on my imax i need to upgrade. looking at somthing specifically for ray, cod and bass. was looking at an anyfish anywhere beach, can get one for 280e, also a few century carbon metals have caught my eye but unsure which to go for. needs to have a little backbone to send a fillet and 6oz gripper 120+yds but still not so stif that its overkill when playing smaller bass and codling
shore species 2008(25):dogfish(3.1lbs), bull huss (12lb 2oz), bass, shore rockling, coalie, whiting, pollack, conger (22.4lbs),flounder, thick lipped mullet (4.8lbs),turbot,ling (11.2lbs),ballan wrasse(4.5lbs), cuckoo wrasse, pouting, poor cod, cod (9.5lbs), dab, 3 bearded rockling, long spined scorpion fish, corkwing wrasse, plaice, trigger fish, sea trout, garfish

anyfish anywhere have a six plus bait rods out, designed for 6oz and bait, easy to cast but can handle fish , John Holden gave them a good review in sea angler.

Neil there is a Zziplex Zero Plus on ebay atm in good nick with a decent build, they usually go real cheap for what they are and are perfect. I fish with one myself and love it for that sort of work. You will be very hard pressed to find a better rod for the job IMO.

I have the Anyfish Anywhere beach and wrote a review in the tackle section. They no longer have a reducer on any of the AA rods so if I was going again I`d get the big beach as I fish reel down. The beach is perfect for my type of fishing over mixed ground, big baits and big tides. Its stiffer than the sidewinder which I think you have but you shouldn`t have any problem compressing it with 6oz lead as it`s user friendly. It hasn`t the same bite detection as a sidewinder and wouldn`t be as much fun with smaller fish and clean ground. Spotty dog tackle sell the AA range cheaper than veals.

cheers donagh. i find the sidewinder abit soft for ray fishing, especially when fishing bigger baits towards the end of the summer.found i could get a more responsive compression with the imax, i.e. the rod unloaded quite rapidly from when it was compressed during the cast. the sidewinder i find is quite gradual in this respect, ideal for softer worm baits at distance but not great for half a mack fillet and squid. in regards stiffness is there a great deal of difference between the beach and big beach. have only cast the rock rod in the aa range and thats a beast.

Having actually used both models i would say the LT14 Neil would be the better option for you though they are both lovely rods.

The XTR sport is an awful lot of rod, a serious weapon on the field saying that the LT is no slouch either.

I haven`t used the big beach but I rang Julian Shambrook when I was buying the Beach and he felt the big beach should be user friendly. You might try ringing him yourself to talk about the AA rods. The numbers on the AA web site. I didn`t go for the big beach at the time as I was worried rightly or wrongly that 14 feet might of been to long for me fishing off rock marks due to clearance even with the reel one foot off the bottom. John Holden was of the opinion they that a 14 feet long rod makes ground clearance a problem in real fishing situations but they would be perfect for Easy casting big cod baits. He has a review of the big beach on his web site. You might look at Beachcasters views as he discussed both rods in one of the tackle reviews before and would lean towards the big beach.

The Dymic LT14....my son has one, the first thing he caught on it was a Tope earlier in the year....fish was about 35lb plus....he said the rod performed fantastic, it can wang a bait out with the best of them too.

Hi Ya,

for what it's worth i have a Century Carbon Metal 13 8' and love it. Plenty of pulling power when needed and still capeable of spotting small knocks even at distance, it will cope no bother with 6oz plus bait at range.

I have mine 3 years and genuinely cannot fault it, it's the first rod I pick up every time.

Hope this helps somwhat.
