so he would have to sell 500 a month just 2 cover electricity expenses. before you consider time, effort, etc and it there would be even more time and effort involved in collecting them as hard backs, then you have the prob of trying to monitor the crab to sort out those that are ripe from those that arent. a dead crab will prob have a chain effect like with worms

he's paying that at the mo to cover his pleasure tanks, combined with the income from his clown fish and prawns he easily covers that, crabs would be a bonus.

if he cant breed them cost effectively he can always go collecting hardbacks but he's convinced he can do it.
exactly eric ,, collect the natural recsourse that is the answer now you are talking, one of the things i have found is collecting hard crabs 1/you dont know where they are in their peeling cycle,,2/ placement in a holding tank is not enough to incite a peel,3/feeding the crab is nessesary,4/possible heating will be required 5/reproducing the tides ie,,bring them out of the tank at regular intervals ,say day to day,,stopping feeding its a tough life been a crab keeper but fun!!!!!! :P :P

theres a definite way of setting up a tank for crab, same for worm , a natural bacterial tank ,death just feeds the bacteria and keeps the water cleaner

caz if your keepin em make sure you get rid of dead fish or crabs rapidly as it raises the amonia levels firstly and then your nitrite and eventually your nitrate levels will go up to

rock ,,,,i feed the crab on worm theres never any left but yes point taken on the fish,,how is your tank/s setup i am always up for swapping ideas
i do not use a man made filter i use a cockle /mussel shell filter therefor bacterial and if a worm dies it is just recycled into the system a great idea given to me from friends in the NE England where crabs are scarce
gee
