west cork bass mark 09-11-07

#1 Post by lumpy »

People:me

Duration:2130-0200

Tide:lw@ 2300

Weather:very clear, very cold with a gentle w breeze

Bait:frozen razor and lug

Rigs:2/0 pulleys

Results:1 flounder, 2 pin whiting and 9 bass all between 1.5 and 2lbs with one touching around 3lbs

Catch and Release:: Yes

Report:

tides looked perfect tonight with lw well into darkness. arrived an hour and a half before and set up camp. relatively quite for the first 45 mins until i got a good slack liner on a whole razor. fish fought reasonably well which made me think i had a better fish so was quite surprised to see a small schoolie of about a pound and a half in the surf. 15 mins later i had its twin on a big lug bait. inbetween these i was geting loads of tiny rattling bites which eventually turned out to be pin whiting, unusual for this mark as i never really had them here before. as the tide turned and began to fill a small surf came up and the bass really went on the feed with 3 fish taken in 10 minutes all on razor. i eventuallyran out of razor and missed a few more on lug but still, 9 bass in a night i cant complian.

interesting that all the bass are basically the same size, guess it bodes well for the future. dissapointed not to be getting better fish but hopefully it might blow a bit next weekend when the high tides co incide with darkness and get a few better fish feeding.

very happy with it. definately the easiest rod ive used to cast with. put simply with a 4oz lead and bait it bends and casts 100+ yds easily, pretty straight forward really.

was out tonight again with dave. ended up with 6 bass, 2 about 1.5lbs, 2 about 3 lbs, one of 5.5lbs and one of about 6.5lbs. aslo had a flounder and a 1lb coalie. all on lug or razor or a combi of both. funnily had a flounder on the top hook and a bass on the bottom hook of a pennell on the same rig...defo a first for me. dave had 2 of about 2lbs.
