Arranmore Island

Hey guys my girlfriends family have a cottage on the island, went there last year and did my first bit of fishing in the lakes..got sweet FA!

Now iv got into good old sea fishing can any one recomend me on marks arround the island? What baits are best etc?

Jelly worms off any rock west of the harbour also mack strip for nice gurnard its the type of place that can throw up anything ive had haddock spurdog gurnard ray and big whitning very near the shore from a boat well within casting distance i was told that thers blacksole to be had at night so give it a go its a lovely place if you get the weather

There was supposed to be a spawning population of rainbow trout in one of the lakes there years ago, possibly the only stock in ireland that spawned successfully. I was part of a survey team a few years ago and we got sweet FA so it appears they didn't survive. Think the lake is a water supply and it was drawn down a lot more, so maybe eggs in marginal areas got dried out before hatching.
Anyway, thats probably why you didn't get anything there!
Its called fishing, not catching. If it was called catching it wouldn't be fishing!

It got fished out, apparently. I've heard of whispers of rumours about some folks interested in restocking and taking care of it next time. Be nice to see.

I take it that its Lough Shure you're talking about. I remember reading about it years ago, apparently it once held the only fully self maintaining population of rainbow trout in the country, so its a pity to hear that.
