Just invested in a fridge/freezer to keep all my baits. I cant believe it took me this long to get one. Got it second hand for £20. I have already added my filteration system. :D :D

I think a diagram would be better than any pictures. I spent my lunch doing this so you better appreciate it lol. The general idea is that the sea water filters down through individual trays and into a basin (veg container within the fridge). The basin has another filter with a pump on it to complete the circuit. I have also added those fish tank pebbles.
hope it makes sense. Its only a trail run for myself and I have only been using it for 2 days now. :D :lol:

how is the pump powered??

whats the life expectancy of any thing put into it

No problems.

Its power by plugs. I cut the rubber seal outa the fridge and taped the leads down with good ole duct tape. It is all then plugged into a breaker a good foot above the fridge to form a U to create a drip effect so any excess water drips onto the floor rather than the plug.

I dont know as yet as it only been running two days so far but i also have a couple 2l of sea water in the fridge which i will be replacing a couple of days. Its still in the very early stages for now!!

whats the best form of filters

For now the filters are cut up netted curtains and taped down chicken wire with good ole duct tape. The pump is turned down to its lowest setting.

I got the pump out of a pet shop. I already had the filter. all the tubing came outa B&Q. Trays are outa of a garden centre. The pebble at the bottom are straight outa my fish tank

At the minute it is purely for holding the water. To allow enough water for the pump and filter system to work efficiently. I suppose crabs could be kept in it. I have been using the above system for only a couple of days now. There is two trays in operation so far with room to introduce a further two more.

you might wanna let the water run by itself for a week with some filter media in the water tank to help the bacteria mature,,,maybe some sponges for the bacteria,,,

basically the same as setting up a fish tank,,,

was thinking this myself. It has very little worms in it. Also I dont think that rule applies when I source new sea water every week but cheers for the suggestion.

Ahh...

If you are sourcing fresh sea water every week, you might get away without a filter, although a home made sponge filter might do the business for you, and they are cheap. It might do well for holding peelers, especially if you want to slow the moult a little so they are there for you over a period of a few weeks. The cold water should slow their metabilisim quite a bit. The fact that the water is likely to be about 6 degrees, it might not be any use for bringing peelers on.

yep if your using fresh water a fair bit you should be ok without running it but i would still recomend a filter anyway sure the filter will do the pumps work for you
