People:me

Duration:1930-0100

Tide:hw @ 2252

Weather:cqlm, slight mist and quite mild

Bait:fresh lug and frozen razor

Rigs:pennell pulleys

Results:9 bass,(1 1/2- 3 1/2 lbs) 10 coalies and 1 flounder

Catch and Release:: Yes

Report:
on the way home from work decided to fish one of my favourite marks to see if theres any bass around. had a few dozen lug left from mondays trip to kinsale but need more which warrented digging in the dark (now the winters definately here). managed about 3 dozen which should have been sufficient to keep me going. arrived at the mark at 1915 and had the 1st bait in the water within minutes.. began to set up my second rod when i got what looked like a bite. thinking it was only weed i discounted it and continued setting up. again i got another good bite but when i struck i missed him.

this rod was rebaited and cast out again. with in 5 minutes i had a classic slack liner. i would furiously and made contact with the first bass of the night. he weighed at about a pound and a half. what happened next is possibly the highlight of my year with a total of 6 bass coming in 8 casts with 2 other missed bites. all to lug except one to full razor.

at about an hour and a half the coalies came on the feed with a succession of them coming to lug and razor cocktails. these fed ominously until just before highwater when suddenly they stopped. everything went quite for about 10 mins when i got another slack liner which resulted in a 3 lb bass, soon to be followed by its twin, both these to lug and razor cocktail. again it quiteded for around an hour with only a few coalies and a solitary flounder taking. i also missed a serious bite during this spell when i struck too early.

with only a handful of lug left i loaded one rod with the remains and whacked it out about 120 yds. while tackling down the othe rod i say the baited rod give 2 good downwards pulls before going slack. this resulted in the final bass of the night, a 2 lb schoolie

cheers lads.would still be there if i had enough lug. few interesting things occured as well. firstly one rod caught 90% of the fish even though i used the same baits, rigs and approximate distance on both. the coalies were also averaging the pound mark which is alot higher than the past few years... bait wise i was using lug baits about 5 inches long consisting of about 6 medium lug on a 2/0 sukuma manta pennell. all fish bar one coalie were hooked cleanly in the corner of the mouth.these hooks have firmly become my favourite in various sizes for virtually all my fishing..

neil,

i have often experienced the same thing, 2 rods same bat, rig and distance but only the one rod producing.

i think that 4 me on these sessions it was a case of the rod producing was the furthest down tide so the fish came across this rod 1st
