well done lads,

couldnt get a fish on the 3rd session but well done on performing in such difficult conditions and only managed 28th place. it was my 1st masters and i have to say it was without doubt the worst organised competiton i ever fished

10 must go through from this years so if anyone in the top 10 from this year already qualified then it goes to place 11 and so on down the line.

Interesting comment (from the perspective of one that organises a comp). Why would you say it was poorly run? You would think that these style events would run like clockwork as there is a good few big events fished by the IFSA each year.

I must have missed something here but why wasn't there anybody from SAI SAC in the comp?

1. there were no maps to show people where the beaches were nor was there anywhere for people to know the best place to access the beach for their peg

2. on the night competition there was only 2 stewards in my zone (for 38 anglers). it seemed to be a case of anyone that was available was snagged to be a steward, even a 10 year old kid that didnt even know what a flounder looked like. this was as the executives sat at the bar in the hotel as the rest of us got drunk on!!!!

3. after the night competition word was spread at the hotel that the comp the next day was moved to 11am (instead of 10 am, as a result at least 6 anglers i know of, myself included were late), some people were also apparently told that the comp had been moved back to rossnowlagh instead of streedagh as the conditions werent suitable on streedagh (this was false)

4. local anglers told me that they had tried their best to get the competition moved as they beachs that were fished are not known for their productivity.

5. the organising club backed out only weeks before the competiton and left it up to the provincial council to organise.

6. the competition was organised so that all 3 competitions were fished on a dropping tide, however from speaking to locals over the weekend, all 3 venue fish best on a flodding tide.

considering the costs associated for each club and individual angler to compete in such a competition, i cannot for the life of me figure out how it could be left as such a shambles.

by the way, i still didnt even get my pin!!!!!!

Well done to all the fellow club members who performed so well at the weekend. Donal Domeney, Outstanding result mate for someone who thinks scratching is what Cork men do to their arse :D . Well done Pete and Seanie too, great to see 3 fellow club members from SAI making the top 10 in the premier shore comp, fantastic achievement. Unlucky Paul and I believe JP also on the blank on the last session. Nothing wrong with 28th after a blank session in your first masters. Hard lines lads but sure theres always next year.

Yeah Pete I did manage a blank on the last session. I had gone into the Sunday in third position overall so as you can imagine I was pretty Pi**ed with myself.

Well done to the other lads who made the fish offs with solid performances. Best of luck to ye.

How ya keith, numbers of fish were pretty poor, think it worked out as an average of 1.45 fish per angler over the 3 sessions. Mainly flounders with a few coalies and 5 dogs in the night session. A few turbot were caught on streedagh too. Think there was also one mullet, 2 bass and a good scattering of sea trout and weavers over the weekend.

thanks for the spread sheet jim, i must have missed a few when i counted cos i actually came 32 not 28 :oops: :oops: :oops: :oops:

however just from looking at the sheet i can see that if i had managed a fish in session 3 i could have come 17. however the better men on the day got the results they deserved. well done to everyone that managed to stick it out over the 2 days. tough conditions

It could be worse than that Paul :) I just totalled the scores and sorted the list. This doesn't take into consideration how the organisers would sort out ties! So there were three of ye on 71 so it could be 32nd, 33rd or 34th. How bad. You were still there and you did your best 8)

Organisers always have a tough job. While they can never satisfy everybody there are plenty basic things that should be got right each time. I agree totally: anglers that have worked hard all year to get their place deserve an event that is better run than any other.

perhaps an idea that could be examined in more detail:


rather than fishing the traditional 3 competitions over 2 days event, each province could hold 1 4-5 hour competition, each to be held over a different weekend. it would help to reduce the work load placed on a single committee, it would also take the weather element out of the equation as you are unlikely to have 4 weekends like with bad weather and also i would be easier for a province to find a single venue to hold all the anglers than it would be to find 3.

the dedicated anglers would still travel when required and the cream would still rise to the top but it would also allow for a better variety of fishing rather than 3 sessions scratching for flats.
