Fixed spool rec

#1 Post by jake »

I've gone through 2 fixed spools in the past few weeks  , in saying that i only paid €60 quid each for them. The cogs just keep going in them. Can anyone recommend a good fixed spool for general allround fishing. I'm sick of going with the shops sales person as i reckon they see me coming a mile off with that large front window. Like, im no expert  im not too fussy on any brand i just want a gerneral allrounder, If anyone can help me out or point me in the right direction i would be very gratefull.

Try an Okuma Interceptor 50 for value for money and surprising good quality.

Otherwise, i reckon you should be looking at the usual suspects, Shimano, Penn etc. I'm not much a f/s user on the beach, perhaps someone else with more experiences can advise.

Shimano biomaster €100 will last you for a few years, same with the Penn surfmaster, not too sure on the price of these.
Both are rock solid and are good for in close as well as a bit of distance.

Honestly i only can see a very little amount of a really good quality reels on our market. Most of them are cheap low end reels that sold at a price which is not equal to the quality of reels;this is including from the top brands ie shimano, penn, daiwa etc.....but its not mean that all this low quality reels is not good....rule of the thumb is to take a really good care of them....they still will perform well but not as good and as long as the better hi ends reel....for me i will source anything that i want from the web....u still can ask the local shop to get them for you....but the price is gonna be very expensive.....i heard a story of a local guys getting a shimano stella from local tackle shop for nearly euro 1000....of course its a damn best reel on shimano stable...but i dont think u need to pay that much for it.....as for the tackle shop guys....most of them know nothing that u want....they just want u to buys things from them....but not all like that....

HI Jake what are you doing to the reels that is busting the gears :?: May bee it isn't the reels that are the problem :?: I'm not been nasty but if you broke two reels in a few weeks then may bee its something that your doing that's causing them to brake :!:

First one slippped a cog with a tasty bass on board until it started slipping so much i had to walk backwards up the beech and eventually lost d bas****. Second one i had a bit of weed on board well in saying that i reckon waterford county council should be paying me for cleaning the beech that day, it just couldnt handle the weight. Now, dont often fish in these conditions its just that der was a nice wager on with me mates to see who could land d largest bass in a 2 day period, (i won with a 5 1/2 lb) this was on the previous cast to the first reel packing up.

jake, in the last few years i have gone through 30 odd beach reels, penn, shimano, ect. most would last a few weeks others few days, then last xmas the young fella got me 2 shakespear mustangs, still have them, have landed over 400 bass and use them almost daily, for E.30 they are outstand value. i bought 2 more in the spring and have not needed to use them yet. they are the most relieable and longlasting reel i have had, u could not break they if u tryed, reckon they would winch in all the weed in waterford :P :) 8)

Broke mine. nothing too serious though.
good reel for the cash. Have a shimano aerlex 8000 now. nice reel. no probs yet. personally i reckon rapalajoe is spot on about the quality of fs reels now. most feel like cheap muck.

Aha! so its the reel I was wondering how you did it
If people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing rods.
