19th october 2007

People:me

Duration:2000-0000

Tide:hw @ 2230

Weather:clear with f3/4 sw, cold

Bait:frozen mack

Rigs:pulleys

Results:1 huss 3 lbs, 6 dogs and 1 mackerel

Catch and Release:: yes bar the mackerel for bait.

Report:

arrived 2 hours before hw and set up camp. first cast with a frozen mini flapper i had a very good run which i gave a few moments to develop. as the fish began to move i hit him but everything went solid. frustratingly i could still feel the fish moving but appeared to have wrapped my line around a snag. inevitably it broke off. all went quiet for about an hour then i got a few dogs before i had a good bite on the second rod fishing in the sand. this turned out to be the only huss of the night landed. i lost/dropped another one of about 7 lbs on the way in when it went to ground and then appeared to drop the bait. i also had one more good run on the heavy rod but again went to ground and broke off. also had an interesting bite which i wound into and felt a good weight. this turned out to be a dog which had wrapped itself in the shockleader 15 feet from the trace???, and a mackeral cleanly hooked in the mouth on a 4/0 pennell at night.

Duration:1700-2230

Tide:lw @1945

Weather:overcast with a f4 s/sw breeze, quite mild

Bait:frozen mackerel, sandeel, squid, lug.

Rigs:4/0 pulleys, size 2 2 hook boom flappers

Results:12 dogs, 5 pin whiting, 1 mackeral

Catch and Release:: Yes, bar the mackerel

Report:

decided to try one of my ray marks to see if any late season thornies were still present. alas this was not to be with the everpresent dogs more than willing to keep me occupied. also got a hand full of whiting which is alwas nice to see. hopefully a few cold weeks will bring in a few better sized specimans . also have an inkleing that there may be a few codling near this mark but further searching will have to be done.

People:me

Duration:1300-1900

Tide:hw @ 1600

Weather:initially cloudy with a f4 s/se breeze, relatively warm. as evening approached it brightened

Bait:fresh and frozen mack, sandeel, lug, squid

Rigs:2 hook boom flappers, 3/0 pulleys

Results:8 coalies (1/2 to 1lb), 2 palm sized flounder, 2 pollack, about 18 macks

Catch and Release:: Yes, except half a dozen macks for bait, the rest shook off the hook

Report:

fished a new mark today which ive always wanted to fish as i had a feeling there may be a few ray present. on arrival the sea was comfortably calm. first cast with a squid and mack wrap i had a couple of savage bites but could not hook them. this continued for 3 casts with each bait returning in relatively good condition after savage bites. eventually i hooked one of these elusive fish which turned out to be a mackeral  , this continued for the rest of the session with mackerel being a complete nuicence. around high water a few coalies began to show with a few double shots. these came to mackerel and sandeel, although sandeel had alot more success. had the 2 flounder on successive casts just before high water. if i had put on feathures i think i could have caught box loads of mackerel. place seems to be still pretty stuffed with them.
