Report:
Headed to Clon for the weekend on a mission to get my first bass. New camera packed to capture the moment... bloody jinx!
Had a few pints on Friday night then up early Saturday. My local contact wasn't going fishing til the afternoon, so had a few casts at a fishy-looking mark, unfortunately the weed was atrocious and had to give up soon after.
Met my "guide" in the afternoon and went to a favourite estuary mark, but apart from one bite on his rod that he missed we blanked - not even a flounder showing.
Went to a low water mark near Inchydoney and fished the evening there but again nothing. John had to head for home so he left me with a good few crab for the Sunday - fair play to him!
After a few pints and other activities Saturday night it was a slow start on Sunday and we didn't get fishing til 12. Fished a couple of spots in Ring but nothing, so took a break and went to the pub for a pint and some Thai fish soup - delicious! Back to the mark from the previous day. I was fishing with 2 mates this time - neither of whom had fished in the sea before. Both of them were fishing with my rods and gear, and I even had to cast for them as they had never used multipliers before.
About an hour into the session one of the lads got a cracking bite and had a fish on, which took him straight into the weeds. Being a novice he pulled too hard and the shockleader knot parted (ok, maybe that was my fault, not his  ) but the fish was still in the weeds. I was wearing thigh waders so waded out as far as I could and managed to grab the shockleader. The fish was still on to our delight, so it was a happy ending. He was delighted with his first bass, and I was well chuffed for him. Another convert to sea fishing!
Unfortunately didn't manage to get one myself, but will be back very soon... :D
ps Clonakilty appears to be a great town for the women!

Its called fishing, not catching. If it was called catching it wouldn't be fishing!

Ah I was shown the marks by one of the local FOs who catches a lot of bass so that wasn't a problem. Scannels and de Barras got a couple of visits over the weekend...... plenty of hen parties around :D

Bradan is a fishmonger Neil, I'd tell him nothing  Was it John T. who was showing you around Kev? Man has an intimate knowledge of that area down there.

It was indeed Pete, and I had Mr. H as well on the phone offering advice. All useful for future trips...
Cheers for the offer Neil, will give you a shout next time I'm heading down... if the bass aren't biting maybe you could put me on some of those great huss you're getting
