C+R
I caught and released this bass fishing customer this morning. I debated with myself for a while whether I should kill and eat him but, older guys are a bit tough and anyway it causes all sorts of complications and intense debate. After I took the hook out, I held his hand for a while and then he walked off – as strong as before. It has been noted that previously tagged and released customers tended to return to Ireland and SEAi over time – particularly between June and September. Bass fishing customers are now returning from places like Sweden, USA, Denmark, France, Germany, Holland, England,Italy and Ireland. This proves to be of great benefit to local and rural economies in Wexford.
Scientific analysis over the past 7 years on released customers has revealed some startling results. Reasons as to why they return to the same place are many but include safety, accommodation, environment, scenery, fun and relaxation. The primary reason that bass fishing customers revealed as to why they returned was quality of service coupled to great bass fishing.
The profile of the returning customers remains diverse – groups of young brash and bright ones full of energy are often followed by a slower more sedate and yet wiser customer willing to take his time and not waste any energy. Skin samples are taken regularly and are sent to the relevant boards for ageing analysis. The population as a whole remains positive.
Some illegal harvesting of customers by other sports like Golf does however continue and the relevant authorities although under-resourced tend to deal with this menace as best they can. I do encourage a C+R policy but if the situation presents itself we do kill an odd customer here and there. Ireland is still the only European country to have awarded a sport fishing protection status to bass fishing customers.

Blood
I
Once the hook is clean and sharp and only 'fleshy' parts are penetrated then the pain isn't too bad. Once no blood vessels are pierced there is a minimum of blood too so its not too messy.
I was once left 'attached' to a rather large pike while my companion fainted and fell into a bed of nettles when he saw what the problem was. I pushed the hooks through - clipped them and pushed them back out and throughout this process the fish was still attached to the lure - couldnt get him off until i removed the hooks!!! - remembering it makes me sweat even now.
i always carry a snips - and try always to have clean sharp hooks.
The guy woke eventually up and all the way home he complained of his nettle stings.......

Classic Jim, funniest thing I've read in ages.
I've found that in such cases, once the catch is immersed in sea water the bleeding from such wounds subsides and what initially might have looked a sure-fire knock-on-the-head case can be released OK.

Re: C+R
knew a geezer back home who snagged his albert on the sideboard of a jetski and ripped a good 4 mm. He reckoned the saltwater saved him.
don't rule out the return to a previous spawning ground as a possible reason for the return of the released ones. fun can be had on a weekend away "fishing" ... :)

Its good to have a bit of fun now and again....
For anybody interested i will be publishing in Waterlog Magazine
Bass fishing customers Modern Techniques.
Locations revealed : London, Paris, Rome, New York how and where to find your customer.
Lures used and how to use them: Green fields, peace and quiet, empty beaches, clean environment.
How to 'release' your customer: Pints of Guinnes, good meals, sunny days all these and more prove good for releasing stress and tension.
How to ensure a good return: I have some secret locations that you havent seen, or we will probably have our own boat next year, or you should see how it performs when the weather is good..!
I have to go now - 'returning' a customer to the airport!!
