Cork Beach Mark, 12/10/2007

#1 Post by thescotsman »

People: Me & Pete

Duration: 19:30 - 23:30

Tide: falling tide

Weather: mild, slight southerly for a while

Bait: frozen razor, fresh crab, launce, sandeel

Rigs: single hook clipdowns, three hook flapper, two hook flapper

Results: 1 coalie to me, bass, coalie, cod, dogfish to Pete

Catch and Release:: Yes

Report: Decided we'd head down to close to our usual location and try for a ray this time for a change. I was delayed and didn't make it down till 21.30, by which time Pete had given up on ray and had moved back to our usual mark scoring himself a coalie, a bass and I think a doggie before I got there. A bit of a breeze had come up by this time and there was a bit of surf, but it soon was gone again. I got a coalie at range to some razor. Had to ration it as I'd come down with bait for rays.
Soon had a lot of problems with weed, which saw Pete stretched out relaxing on the sand till it had passed. Not having caught anything I didn't have that luxury. After about half an hour the sea cleared again and we fished on. The resident fox was out on patrol and managed to snaffle one of my launce. Wouldn't mind, but was going to give it to him anyway. Note to self, stay close to bait bucket at all times!
Very quiet apart from that, I missed the best of it early on it would appear.
As we were reeling in, Pete suddenly found some resistance on his line about 20 yds out. I was alerted to the fact by his victorious laughing, when it turned out he had a nice cod of 2 to 3lbs to some crab.
Nice thing to get as you are reeling in, hadn't put up a fight until it got close to shore.

He managed a 10lber the next night when his wife gave birth to a baby boy, so congrats to Pete and family on the new arrival.

I guess he'll be a bit quiet around the forums and the beaches for a while :)

Aye, got the call on the way home from the beach and after a quick shower headed off to Hospital. A long night and day ensued and wasn't without its scary moments before Liam Eoin, at 10lbs 13ozs was delivered safely by section. Mam and baby both doing fine. What a weekend, pleasant evenings fishing, England footballers won 3-0, the rugby lads did the dog on France and advanced to the world cup final and after an unmerciful siege I was presented with a beautiful little lad.

Carlsberg dont do weekends.....but if they did..... :wink:
