Sry again, but i couldnt find any facts or statistics again just a random articles from 2009 and estimated figures, today we live in 2012 and tourism is nearly collapsed ... We all know if it comes to protective scheme, local boys DO overrate all the figures !
And then, will these tourist TAKE the fish out ? Where do they take them, to New Zeland, South Africa, Italy by a courier or ?
Sounds like even the tourism, if it exists any more, takes the fish out of Ireland, lads, GET REAL !

Cheers, finally got some figures but still ...
My relatives came over last year and twie ! ! !, they got a leaflet in the airport, "your interests in Ireland". They also ticked, "fishing", 1 of 6 came with me for the mackerel and i gave my rod to her, others had no chance to touch the rod but also ticked, : "fishing"
As they knew i take them onto the local pier. So ... i dont know what else to say .... Just wondering, how these statistics are built up ...

By the way yngkmd how can you describe cod as "inedible". They are the most important food fish in the Northern hemisphere. As for your point about nobody caring about coalfish etc, you make the mistake of assuming that because you do nothing yourself then other people don't. There are many people (several are forum members) who work very hard to try to protect and improve all our marine fish for the benefit of anglers. If you would like to start a specific campaign to protect coalfish (and yes they do fight well) I will happily support you. Be prepared for a lot of unpaid thankless work though!
The reason people care so strongly about bass is that they are the only species that are reserved specifically for anglers. If we are not prepared to abide by the bass laws how can we possibly complain about commercial fishermen when they ignore the law for other species.

How many bass anglers do you import to Ireland annually/daily ?
Average bass number caught and the number of bass taken out annually by tourists ?
Really cant find these figures on the site.

The facts that I refer to are confirmed booking days made to my business here in Wexford during 2012. These people will come from Denmark, Italy, France, Uk, Holland, Germany and Ireland - approx 65% International. Some days are single people, some weeks are three people. This is a small business here that I started back in 2003 and have worked very hard to get it to the present position.

That position may not be very much when considered in isolation but it is based within my own capacity and the optimum times for the fishing during the season. This is the operational reality of the business. The fishing is 99.9% C+R the .1 is based on two Italian brothers who like to fly out on Sunday night to London with one fish each in an ice box.

I think this confirms that this is one example that there is a continued and growing Iternational and National tourism interest in bass fishing in this country which is sustainable.

I have no wish to 'argue' with you in any way but you must consider why I do not include very specific numbers on an open forum lest it be mis-interpreted in some way.

John Quinlan is the ONLY other person whom I know who really understands the nature of what it means to work as a bass guide in this country, believe me both of us are trying to do our best to do what many are not!

Have to agree with Jim above, myself, brother in law and one of my mates between us will fish with Jim 3 or 4 times this year. Now I like to think we are all decent bass men and know what we are doing, but ye cant beat fishing with an expert. I have also fished with John Q before and found it extremely beneficial. I know most of the decent marks in ireland for bass and have caught my fair share in the past so Its not like we need to. We also travel to Kerry a few times a tear for long weekends, that too brings revenue. Nearly every time we are down there we run into anglers, mostly from the UK, who have come over just for the Bass fishing. I could go on and on about how much we spend etc etc but you get the idea....

Also was doing a little bit of scouting at one of my favourite marks and i seen a Bass that was easily into double figures having a nice lazy swim.

I wouldn't be surprised if he knows he is safe from me at the moment.
