The "NI and UK people" would love to have the same rules we have here.
I tell you your good at working people up the wrong way but your getting silly now

Quote of the day Tommy, everytime i look at recent posts concerning this person its always the same bs and sh.t stirring and its getting very frustrating to have genuine topics been hijacked .The word don't feed the troll is springing to mind, from now on "ignore list" . 8)

Sry lads but after reading few UK bass forums this morning, looks like noone is concerned about bass population over there. Just type into google: "bass angling UK" and check it out. Take home as many as you want and noone says nothing.

Doberman,

You believe to much of what you read on the internet, I have allot of friends all over the world that I talk to about these issues and if you ask any UK angler and they will tell you that they would love a ban on bass the same as we have...

Could you imagine the bass fishing if the UK banned trawling of bass?....

Now as for your trolling, please put down the computer and go talk to some real life anglers, maybe travel up to the north and talk to anglers face to face and see how they really feel.....

Now as for false caring, I take it you only read this thread on this forums because there is posts all over the place with people looking for ideas on ways to help the fish stocks.

I would love to see a total ban on all fish but the problem is it will never happen because to many people get rich from sucking the sea dry of life.........
Until we can come up with a solution that will keep all partys happy I am afraid to say that this is how its going to be, fish will keep declining.

Free speech, isnt it ?

80km away in UK people are happy to fish for bass, theres no moan about the quantity and ban seasons. All i just hope is they use theyr common sense. Even then reading UK forums, true anglers take out 4-10 bass a night and they get a lot of respect from other true anglers
In these days people do talk a lot in the forums. If you suggest me to not read, are all these people talking rubbish and also people in this forum so ?

When was the first year they banned bass fishing in late spring ?
Since that, what did you do, to improve the bass quantity in Ireland ? Except the moan in the forum where most poachers dont come ? Every year the same thread was started and nothing changed ? Called the fishery who never arrived at the time ?
Whos worse angler, who takes 10 bass out of the sea in a whole season, 1 in a ban period, or the pure angler, who takes out about 100-200 bass in a year and none of them in a ban period, but 10 of them just 5 days before the ban date ? And please dont tell me the last one is really bad because he wont release the fish, maybe hes feeding all hes relatives, who are struggling in this recession at the moment. In hes relatives eyes he is a hero, didnt brake any laws and brings food ...

Rules of living are simple, live and let others to live. This moan causes too much anger in yourselves.

And this trawlers vs anglers 90 - 10% talk is rubbish. 1 trawler takes out more fish in one day than all the shore anglers in a whole month in Ireland

Its much bigger picture than just useless moan between each other with other true anglers here !

And if i cant say out my personal opinion, whats the point of the public anglers FORUM ?

Stay cool and tight lines ! :)

Yes Doberman, of course you should be entitled to express your opinion. It would of course be quite usefull if you knew some of the facts. First of all Northern Ireland is just about to introduce very similar legislation to our bass legislation. They at least must think ours is a good system.
Your point about UK anglers keeping 4 to 10 bass a night is pure fantasy. There are many UK sea anglers who do not catch 10 bass in a season let alone in a night. Uncontroled commercial expliotation means that most shore anglers rarely catch a bass over 4lbs in a season. Why is it that almost all UK bass guides that operate over there do so in protected nursery areas? Because they could not survive on what they would catch in the open sea.
The UK BASS society gives awards every year to any of their members who catch bass over 8lbs from the shore. Every single one recorded for the last 3 years by their members came from Ireland even though most of their members only fish here for a week or two each year.
As for trawlers catching large quantities of bass, I'm afraid you are off the mark here again. The Marine Institute has only recorded 66 bass in the Celtic and Irish Sea between two modern research trawlers in 15 years. This is out of a total of several million other fish. In fact bass was one of the rarest fish they encountered.
Bass are rarely encountered by trawlers even inshore. Most of the commercial catch in the UK is caught by gill nets. Pair trawlers (two trawlers working together) target bass at spawning time when the water is colder and bass can not swim as fast. (Cefas stats)
All scientific evidicence shows that Irish bass stay close to our shore and do not mix with UK or European stocks.(ICES stats)
As for anglers damaging stocks, it is now widely accepted that the massive bass stocks that existed around the Splaugh in the 1950's were wiped out by angling pressure. Regular angling competitions were held when the average catch was 50 bass per angler per day. Within 5 years the stocks were decimated. Uncontroled angling in the 60's and 70's also had a major effect in Kerry though gill netting in the 1980's probably did more damage.
It is up to you whether you abide by the rules or not. I suspect that no matter what you hear you will be able to justify your actions.
By the way if you would like to start a campaign to try to protect the cod, whiting, flounder, wrasse or any other species I will gladly support you. But until you do so it might be better not to be to critical of people who give up their time and money to protect out bass!

Doberman, you are arguing with yourself because you don't understand what I am writing...

I am now finished talking to you because you my friend are the only person moaning here, this thread was to try suggest ways to educate people on the fishing laws in Ireland, then you decided to shoot every one down.

I do ring the IFI, I will ring them again.

ILLEGAL BASS fishing is between 15th of may to the 15th of june...... Any time after that you can take 2 every 24 hours.

It is the job of every Angler that has respect for his sport, hobbie or profession to do the right thing......

Illegal netting and trawling is what has Irish fish stocks so bad, NOT a man with a rod!

im wondering how many anglers would care about protecting the bass stocks if they were inedible, same for cod. Just seems to me that people only care about the fish that are nicest to eat then complain about other people killing them and eating them when they do it themselves.

Personally i think from a sport point of view the humble coalie gives as good a fight as any fish, esp once they hit any decent size yet no-one gives a crap about their stocks since they arent the nicest fish to eat, the way their stocks get hammered its not surprising the majority of them are under 2lb in weight.

sure some of you are purist and are into bassing purely for the sport but i think that would be the minority.

i imagine a few noses are out of joint right now but to me the whole things a big double standard. and before anyone climbs on their high horse this is my opinion and i am entitled to it! whether you agree with it or not

Of course the bass lovers are protecting the bass.
And cod lovers will want to protect the cod. Same for salmon, pike and trout.....

I love fishing, sea, course and any other types I can learn. BUT I remember the days when you couldn't catch a bass and you ALWAYS caught a cod!

But I feel we are doing something right in terms of bass but have yet to find a solution for the cod! . Also, bass fishing brings in trade from tourism so that's why there is a HUGE fuss made over them but in terms of conservation we have done it arse about face..

What about the mussel fields thats been completely striped away from the WHOLE east coast? What about the razor fish beds that are being raped every day....

What about the damage all the dredging has done over the years, all these add to the reasons we dont see so many fish anymore, not just because of poaching and trawling.....

Prevention is better then cure!

Its mentioned few times already here about the tourism, thousands coming for bass.
Anyone has any statistics for that ? Where these numbers coming from ? UK Magazines ? Really thousands fishermen wrote articles last year ?
As this year ive been out fishing about 40-50 nights and i didnt see any tourist fishing down in East Cork. And i do talk to people,
Sry but these days im very skeptical about these figures mentioned here.

No you did not ask you trolled.....

If you want facts go find them. I done the leg work for my business, I spent allot of time gathering information.... If you want to learn about the money that's made in Ireland from tourism then please use you brain, eyes, mouth and fingers... Its not hard...

But heres something that's fact:
Top 5 reasons why people travel to Ireland for a holiday....

1. Hiking and Hillwalking,
2. Golf,
3. Angling, <-----Number 3 on the list.........
4. Cycling and
5. Equestrian Sports

I'm sure you can do the rest.

Sry, cant see and find any facts
This list says nothing to me, its 2005y estimated figures.
Or you want to tell me the tourism is on the same level like it was in 2005 ?
And secondly if you playing smart now, its not hard for you to point at the facts, figures, numbers instead of trolling ?

And this list actually is little differently titled ! ! !

Only 3 more big sleeps till my bass gear comes back out.

Cant wait :)

Also was doing a little bit of scouting at one of my favourite marks and i seen a bass that was easily into double figures having a nice lazy swim.

I wouldn't be surprised if he knows he is safe from me at the moment.

But come Saturday Bass my good friend

I know who you are.
I don't know what you want.
If you are looking for Sandeel,
I can tell you I don't have Sandeel.
But what I do have are a very particular set of skills; skills I have acquired over a very long fishing career.

I will find you, and I will catch you.

Sry again, but i couldnt find any facts or statistics again just a random articles from 2009 and estimated figures, today we live in 2012 and tourism is nearly collapsed ... We all know if it comes to protective scheme, local boys DO overrate all the figures !
And then, will these tourist TAKE the fish out ? Where do they take them, to New Zeland, South Africa, Italy by a courier or ?
Sounds like even the tourism, if it exists any more, takes the fish out of Ireland, lads, GET REAL !
