At last a report but alas no macks....

Got a lovely and rare boat trip in Cork Harbour and surrounds this PM (2/6).

Tried inside Cork Harbour, the mouth of Cork Harbour, towards Trabolgan, out to Daunt Rock, Cork Buoy, finished off drifting over Harbour Rock on the ebbing tide, zero mackerel, the weather made it a postcard perfect day otherwise!

(BTW we caught a lot of very small codling on shrimp lure, despite trying to avoid those little ones :( )

Orlock was busy? I hate it when that happens.

There are mackerel to be found in North Clare at all the normal marks over high water. Not big shoals yet but if you are willing to work for them there is enough for bait. A decent cast is needed. Small white baitcatcher style feathers working best today but black or silver also catching. Smaller rather than larger seeming to have most success. If the wind stays N/W forget it.
The Truth is often stumbled upon by men, most of whom pick themselves up and hurry along as if nothing ever happened.

I fished the East Pier in Dun Laoghaire during the week and had a couple on feathers. Didn't see anyone else catch one but that doesn't mean they weren't caught.

Saw my first mackerel of the year although both were fairly small - Dublin/Dun Laoghaire, wall at the end of the west pier. One caught at about 7pm and another at about 9pm. Think they were on feathers. HT at 7.30pm. Weather: clearing-up nicely with a south-easterly wind. Apparently there was a schoal of them. A lot of people fishing there. Only managed two whiting myself (on very gently-jigged pink feathers baited with someone else's mackerel). Also caught were a lot of small pollack and small flounder, a scorpion fish and something that might have been a sea-mouse.

Hi all,
Tried on Sheep's Head Penninsula on Sat, no joy this time. No sign of any down Bantry direction this past weekend.

Is that a new entry for the dictionary for me. I thought it would never catch on.

Tried 5 or so sessions with feathers / toby lures on Aran Islands over the past week and not a single mackerel (plenty of pollock). Mackerel were still further out from shore, most likely due to cool north-westerlies at the time.
