Good to see them about, what were you using that you only got 3 in an hour?

Fair enough and well done, they give a good scrap on the right gear, hopefully this bit of calm weather will bring more of them inshore.

Hi all - long time lurker, first time poster!

Was checking out the Volvo Ocean Race boats in the docks in Galway yesterday when a shoal of mackerel started jumping up through sprat around them!!

So got the rod and went out to Nimmo's pier - caught two! Was there for about an hour. Nice fish supper!

(Sorry guys, stuck this as a new post-wrong place for it-talking about macks)Out at well known mark in West Waterford this morning. 1 hour either side of high tide. Overcast and increasingly choppy. Sixth time in two weeks here and still Zilch to show for it. I did spot some small jellyfish though so hopefully the water's warming up.

So first full house report of the year to Waterford, May 12th, Well done Craigo!

At last I got out early yesterday morning to a spot that delivered last year

Venue: Dursey area, Beara Penninsula, Co. Cork
Date: 29th May
Time: 06.30
Tide: 1.5 hrs flowing tide
Weather: cloudy, bloody cold, windy and a decent swell
Rig: silver toby, luminous krill imitation rig
Results: blankety blankety blank

Nothing like my fine day here last year :(

Interestingly last year the macks were around in good numbers at this time, then the reports (therefore presumably the macks) fell off in June. It would be interesting to know if this is an annual natural trend, or if people just got sick of reporting. I'd say go out now and get some if you can, they might be scarce again for a few weeks?

Went out from Carlingford today and no sign of any mackerel. We waited until the tide turned and the bar calmed down before venturing out. We went out as far as the Whistler and tried long drifts, but not a sign of any mackerel. I got four fish myself - a coalie, a pollack, a sandeel and a launce :-)

Nothing in Galway (Nimmo's Pier) today. Lot of sprat and jellyfish in the water. Spent 2hrs there, from high tide.

I saw one or two taken today on the West Pier in Dun Laoghaire today but they don't seem to be there in numbers yet so I didnt bother elbowing my way in to try for them.

Went out on friday night for a few, I had the place to myself, 26 macks in 8 casts. The place was heaving with them. Great for the BBQ over the weekend.
Went back on saturday night and there were a bunch of other anglers there but macks were relatively scarce.

Location: Black Head, Co. Clare
Date: Over June Bank Hol Weekend
Result: Blanked one day, 5 the other .. but left disgusted at the state of the rocks/shore

Thought I'd kill about 5 birds with one stone .. get some fishing done in smashing weather, catch the Red Arrows over Galway Bay and see some of the boats coming in and chill in the sun for a bit and bring back a mack or two to throw on the barbie!
Boats and planes were several miles away and dots in the distance but what caught my eye was several hundred metres of tangled fishing line just discarded on the shore (not just in one spot either as I walked most of the shore) along with cans, bags, pringles tins. Not only that but whoever it was had just threw away several of the fish they caught and to me that's a sin .. a disgrace.
I know the sun brings out all sorts but surely these people don't treat their own property like this??
