not sure about it being a tompot ,very hard to tell from the photos but it could possibly be viviporous blenny ( check spelling ) due to the the long tail section , tompots are normally quite dumpy .
http://www.fishbase.org/Summary/Species ... php?id=479
still another species though .
If someone shows you a mark to fish, respect it and dont pass it of as one of your own, dont tell every man and his dog about it.

dont think its a viviparous blenny, dont they have an eel like tail as opposed to a fish tail, as in the body doesnt end and a tail begins, there more like body tapers and dorsal is slightly defined where near end to create a tail (if that makes any sense)

eric... is that really a pout or just a poor cod badly disguised???

POUTING
Three dorsal, two anal fins. Upper jaw somewhat the longer; a thin,
wispy barbel under chin. Body rather deep. First anal fin being well
under first dorsal
. In adults, pelvic fins reach back beyond beginning
of anal fin.

POOR COD
Three dorsal, two anal fins. Upper jaw somewhat the longer; a thin
barbel under chin. Body less deep than in previous species. First
anal begins about level with end of first dorsal
; pelvics reach back
only to the vent.

thats why 'the scotsmans' fish didnt pass

damn these poor cod/pouting ids. I missed that I'd been stripped of my one there. So if I can find a pic from that night of my pouting, I'll be ok?
The pouting that night were small and not as deep bodied as I would have expected them to be (that's how I'd usually ID them as well Paul), but Pete had brought one in along with a poor cod which helped the ID as we could compare them.
Pete, have you a pic of my pouting from that night? (remember my phone died so you took all pics...)

Steve - what are you insinuating?

Is that all the pouting gone or can I still press Pete for that photo??
Is there some better way of seeing the species list rather than trawling through the posts? (a seperate page or online spreadsheet or the like?)

That Mullet was a first for me,I usually foul hook them by accident while spinning for bass.I had another about 3lb also on rag.I accidentally foul hooked one 2 weeks ago on a shad while fishing for Bass so I knew that they might be around. They have a very gentle take for such a strong fish.
