I couldn't help noticing while browsing this topic, which has been going for more than 4 years. There is quite a lot of evidence to support the theory that more fish are caught around the time of Spring tides (Full and New Moon)

It's Interesting to see Cortaz's original drawing for Feb 2007;

Image

And compare it to the Spring/Neap tide graph for that month;

Image

I know this was originally designed to be a prediction of the best fishing dates, but as the years have gone by and reading through the thread, it seems the evidence is quite strong for planning fishing trips around the Spring tides every month.

The latest prediction

Mirrors the spring tide graph for April perfectly, with the biggest Spring tide on the 19th.

Image

I wonder if the results of the fishing in April really do match the prediction?

Graphs for Spring and Neap tides for 2011 & 2012 can be found at http://www.cardiffbsac.org/tides/ which are accurate for anywhere in Western Europe. More information on the graphs can be found at http://www.cardiffbsac.org/tides/info.php

I hope you might find the information useful.

Dunno if there is any great science to this?

The current moves faster on springs... Fish are lazy and feed while moving with a current (like how boats drift) so a fast current means more fish will pass through an area resulting in a higher probability of a catch???

Regarding major and minor times there is a little bit of science to that, but its application is unconfirmed...

Also if everyone here believes this theory and only fishes on the sping tide days... then obviously the catch rates will be higher cos no one is fishing the other days :lol:
