i suppose there would be big numbers of mullet down your neck of the woods by march :?: i havent` been down there since 2005.plenty of cracking mullet spots around clifden but i didn`t start fishing for mullet until 2006.had tried a few times up here when i was a kid but was brainwashed into thinking they couldn`t be caught cos of soft mouth  i`ll never let anyone tell me a fish is uncatchable again :D

im not sure really. the usual shoal in the lagoon would be around and depending on the river they could be in the estuary. if its still in flood theres not much chance but if theres only a few gates open on the wier(low water level) they might be around.

thats what i find drives them out at the end of the summer, large amounts of cold water coming down from lake corrib.

i have 6 marks i fish regular and 4 of them are seriously affected by the amount of cold freshwater coming down rivers/streams and canals.
if next summer is as wet as this year i`ll check out the marks i know aren`t affected by rain water.i know of around 10 such marks so hopefully i wont go fishless like i did for too many days this year :(

Sorry to dig up an old thread guys, but just got reading this. Dan to answer your question and to confirm Davy's comments. I was down at Bangor on a VERY fine afternoon back in July, there was large numbers of mullet swimming about in the old harbor, tide was dropping, water was very shallow, I had a go at them, only managed a few knocks on the rod. Needless to say there was a crowd of people throwing toby's, feathers and everything at them by the time I decided enough was enough

So on the off chance that the mullet do arrive into the harbor expet masses of people to "spoil" the fishing.

maybe the mullet may appear again, or was it just a one off. pitty about the amount of people dont have a clue about mullet trying to catch them. i tried using lures for them once, never got a bite, baits probably the better option.

spinners? if they are any bigger than about 5-6 grams, chances are you were just clipping their fins.

the one ronald almost had was hooked fairly in the mouth, but to be fair i think they are just checking out the spinner like they would check out things floating in the water.
they are a very nosey fish :D

Almost had was a bit of an understatement ,had my hands round the bugger when it took of  cracking big fish around in those days ,then people started to feed the seal in the harbour :x
If someone shows you a mark to fish, respect it and dont pass it of as one of your own, dont tell every man and his dog about it.

seals and otters r a nuscence i think. during the summer 08 in millisle there were some otter and sometimes the seal was in. when they were in there was no point fishing unless u fished on the bottom for flatties.

we`re lucky to see otters these days.
they aren`t exactly around in big numbers to be a problem, and they dont just eat fish and wont do the same damage as a big fat seal.
consider yourself lucky to see otters.there was one that could be seen around bangor but it was washed up at the back of bangor pier 2 years ago :( most people will never have seen an otter in the wild

even if otters were around in big numbers, they wouldn't pose a problem to mullet. mullet are way to fast to get caught by an otter!

seals are a pest though, and there are alot more around than there used to be. i was looking over the side of a bridge down here and saw a seal chasing a huge mullet around the place, was really funny. the mullet kept jumping, and i mean launching itself out of the water at some speed.
