North Clare
Shoals were boiling and driving sprats to the surface still a good cast out but I got a bucket full in under an hour. Taking silver or anything really. Full strings most casts.

The Truth is often stumbled upon by men, most of whom pick themselves up and hurry along as if nothing ever happened.

Dun laoighre - 8 mackies caught today and 1 swiped by a seal. All caught 2 hrs after ht. Seals A nightware - chasing in every fish caught still can't grumble as all blanks past couple of weeks in poolbeg/ dun laoighre.

Re: Mackerel in Dublin?
Still plenty of mackerel off Dun Laoghaire (afternoon, Sunday 29th August 2010, tide low and still receeding, pesky wind from north east). Tried very silvery tassles, 4-hook, size 4 - worked well. One small pollack caught using bait - where did the other guys go? (In my last post I mentioned that large pollack could be caught off Dun Laoghaire - I realise this was highly erroneous having seen the 4 footers caught off Donegal on tv last month.)
Questions:
How many mackerel can a seal eat in a day?
Does anyone know how to make mackerel soup and is it any good?
Is behind Bull Island at high tide the best place for bass in the Dublin region ? And if so - what's better plugs or ragworm ?
Is there any good way of cooking mullet for human consumption?

Re: Mackerel in Dublin?
Caught my first mackies of the season...phew. Dun laoighre on Sunday 29th as well. Put in a solid 5 hour. Nothing on the high tide. 2 hours in on the falling tide and ready to go when they started nibbling. Took all fish in about 30-40 mins. 5 have been filleted and floured and ready for frying mmm. 3 smaller will be bait for those big pollack.
Fishing the pier next to the band stand. Chap before caught about 40 on the low tide rising and 1 codling - all on silver fish. Caught on silver fish/feathers myself. Seals nicked 1 on mr and almost had 2 more - literally jumping from the water against the wall as I brought them in. Anyways nice to see a rod bend which wasn't caused by seaweed or a snag.

Piles of mackerel in cork harbour at the moment. Had loads off the boat last friday. Within casting distance from the shore. We fished a few spots and reckon they could be caught from graball bay or whiting bay.

Re: Mackerel Reports '10 here......
Well Evan they must have all headed off to Cork from Kinsale for a midweek break, fished for two hours plus into darkness/HT, not a sign of a mackerel. about six others fishing off the bridge and looked like a duck there as well.
I was expecting something to show up on a fine August evening, but no joy

Re: Mackerel Reports '10 here......
None from Dun Laoghaire West yesterday evening (6:30-8pm) although a couple of young lads walked past me holding a plastic bag with some good size fish in it at arms length (like making sure I could see it properly) while they asked "hey mr! got sumin'?"... I tink!

Re: Mackerel Reports '10 here......
fished cobh tonight from 6-9 fished the tide in,
as normal with a spring tide there was alot of weed
tried bottom fishing for about an hour and a half
but had no luck with strips of mackerel,
after about an hour and a half we changed to
feather and started spinning but in the space of an
hour and a half we had only 3 mackerel between the 3 of us
so the mackerel still are not in in any big numbers
still a fish is a fish it is still more than other times we have fished there
