Plenty being caught in Clogherhead off the pier. However, good skill and a big reel required to avoid the army of seals just waiting to ambush your haul.

Re: Mackerel Reports '10 here......
Caught oodles & oodles of them from a Bulloch Boat yesterday. They were quite close in and the place was teeming with them. There was plenty of other small boats around most of which were catching them for fun. Great craic on small spinning rod!

it has been pretty hit and miss this year in howth. now in saying that there out there. but not in the usual spots.the back of the island this year was dreadful.but we managed to find other spots
i have found they move in to shallower water as the season moves on.

Not a sniff so far this year... they're WAY out.thirty wrote:any sign of mackeral from the shore, south east wexford, ie coombe, rosdoonstown etc
Although Rostoonstown still managing to pull 20-30 people per night at the mo, it wont last if their not catching fish...!
(Bashers have limited patience
You can see them way out off Rosslare Point, about a mile out off the harbour wall - no prob if your in a boat.
The Bass down here seem to be in unusual spots too lately...

Re: Mackerel Reports '10 here......
They were giving themselves up at the Flats, Ballyvaughan tonight. Still a long way out. Once I got enough for bait( on silver flasher with hardly any feather!) I went through a load of different colours to see if there was anything they wouldnt take but they seemed to be hungry and took the whole spectrum.
The Truth is often stumbled upon by men, most of whom pick themselves up and hurry along as if nothing ever happened.

Re: Mackerel Reports '10 here......
still a ZILCH on macks but caught two lovely bass on sidewinders at 5.30 am Sunday morning last. Thought I'd boo boo'd after zero on german sprats after an hour. first ray of light on the horizon and I switched to the sidewinder on the back of the Cunnigar Spit in Dungarvan. First cast BANG! 48cm bass. 2nd cast BANG again 52 cm. Nothing after that.
Wonderful way to spend a Sunday - and the day was only starting

Re: Mackerel Reports '10 here......
I'd say its been very good all over Clare this year... As per my weekly sessions... never hit any bad day since May... Mack on weekends... for the table and for bait during the week... then back again on another weekend... again for the table and for bait the coming week... cycle has been very good so far and I am happy with Mack fishing... only thing that bothers me is that since May I have never gone out and back home with less than half of a rubbish bag full of litter... most recently the other day... I got like 30+ Macks for 1.5 hours and loads of rubbish on the mark.... I got 6 bottles of beer, almost 10 different beer cans and loads of tangles up lines and feather wrappers... My bin weight is getting used up by these rubbish
but its the only small way I can help...
Overall... 2010 Mack sessions are awesome....
