Fri 22 August - fished Ardmore pier before high water but had to leave due to all the hweed there; fished the main quay in Yough for a couple of hrs over and past HW with about 10 others and though there were sprat everywere, there was no sign of mackerel at all. Not a single fish landed.

I've caught a small few while spinning but you'd be better off the pier at Collimore Harbour
List 2010. fish

List 2011: less fish

2012: less fish again,

2013: even less fish.

Pier in colimore is muck, either of the piers in dunlaoghaire off the elbows is your best bet

Was in Spideal and the water was bubbling with them. Sprat where leaping out of the water. Took 30 or so then stopped fishing for them. No need to be greedy. By the looks thats what everyone was doing no senseless killing of ridiculous numbers.

If your fishing for them in Dunlaoghaire make sure you can get distance, they are there but out a bit.

Now I'm semi mobile I walked along from passage west upto monkstown , water very cloudy and blowing a Gail , didn't look good for mackerel took a light spinning rod and found it was full of small mackerel , a break was coming up the wall about every 10 minutes , had 2to 3 fish per break . All good fun on light gear , had about 30 by the end of it all put back , all fish about 6 to 7inches long .

Hi Morgan, did you manage to unhook them without handling them? I think if you handle them you remove a film from their skin and they won't survive.

Ah in fairness guts I didn't mean to imply that Morgan didn't have a clue, from what posts I see of his here, he seems to be a responsible sensible minded angler

Spent a couple of hours on Coliemore harbour yesterday (couldn't get a space at Dillon's park) with one small pollack to show. There was plenty of sprat around though and I was fishing the ebbing tide. I always think you've a better chance with the Mackerel when the tide is coming in
