Re: Shore Mackerel Reports '14 here...
Beach past Black rock diving board in Salthill fishing well on Saturday night for few sholes. Two daughters landed their first of hopefully many fish! Only problem was that most of them were a bit small for eating so I ended up throw a good few back. Any one else comming across small mack around the coast??
Sunday evening got out for an hour across from Lemo's pier down by the docks. Plenty of fish being caught there from about 9-10pm last night. They were much better size too.....

Good show of macks in Cobh now. Saw several strings of six this morning. Deep Water Quay and Kennedy Pier producing, but the Five Foot Way and Lynch's Quay should produce as well. Fish showing at all stages of the tide.

They seem to have arrived in number alright all around the coast. I was on holidays in Clare and there were large numbers being caught too.

Nothing from Greystones tonight, perfect tide, perfect conditions but they are just not there!

Fished Dunmore East early this morning mid to low tide to try and avoid the crowds.
Two mackerel on feathers for about 2 hours fishing. Good sized and delicious too.
The place is a disgrace though, trace packets EVERYWHERE….drink bottles, cigarette packets. Horrible to see.

There still in at nimmos most were good size only 10 or 12 small ones and most decent size also had 4 or 5. Huge macks never seen them as big..... They were very big shoals breaking the surface aswell good to see them in large numbers havnt seen this many in a few years freezer full for the winter

Re: Shore Mackerel Reports '14 here...
I'm an eternal novice when it comes to sea angling. Each year I try but I don't get the opportunity much to get out to wet a line. And when I do get the chance, conditions are far from ideal.
This summer I managed to get to Church Bay yesterday morning and I'm just back from Ballycotton this morning. Another two blanks!
There was an Asian man fishing with his family. Had caught zero but told me that they caught about 300 mackerel on Sunday.
I though he was b-s-ing me.
I then spoke to another in his group in detail:
He and his wife arrived at 3am for the 4am high tide. Already the pier was chocka and there were crates full of mackerel.
There wasn't room for them on the inside of the pier so they fished the outside. It was non- stop. Endless supplies of fish.
The Polish lads were running around the pier trying to find extra crates, any containers to hold all the mackerel. They were going to sell them later.
There were full crates and buckets lined up.
There was no need to cast. There were shoals of mackerel just off the edge of the pier.

Re: Shore Mackerel Reports '14 here...
Going to take the young lad on Friday evening, anyone know where is best to catch a bit of mackerel without getting snags..? It'll be on the east coast, dunlioare harbour maybe..?
Re: Shore Mackerel Reports '14 here...
Them East winds will push the Maks off shore for a few days, Saturday might be a better day for it once the swell settles down. Dun laoire is not a bad spot, not much snags fishing from the end of the pier.Happy daze wrote:Going to take the young lad on Friday evening, anyone know where is best to catch a bit of mackerel without getting snags..?
