Just a thought, but if the posters were available on line, you might increase your target audience and save on printing?

Re: Bass being commercially exploited again!?
Hey Guys,
just a note on the posters. The ones that I sent are meant for printing. I certainly can and will prepare lighter version for online use. This can happen around the weekend though as this week is pretty intense for me, so it is unlikely that I will have time to do so before Friday. (as a matter of fact I just came back from work...)
All of ye who can distribute posters (tackle shops, etc) please post here numbers that you need (and perhaps versions you prefer - white or blue) so Tony can have better idea as of how many needs to be printed. Lets collect numbers until Friday so they can be printed all at once. This is just my suggestion as Tony will know better how this should be coordinated from his end.
Honestly, I heaven't look yet on survey for the reason mentioned above - I'll get to this ASAP (still it will be the end of the week).
Nice job you guys on this marine institute document - I think, as it was mentioned before, that someone should take a lead on coordinating our efforts. Also, moving certain stuff to closed forum might be good idea at this point.
So much for now from Tommy *exhausted*

I'll set up a private forum for admin stuff- unfortunately at the moment I'm just not in a position to take the lead on this, but I'll certainly help out

Don't burn yourself out Tommy, this needs to be a collective effort from all concerned, for it to even stand a chance of working.
The art work on the posters is stunning but maybe a bit of help from others with the text layers might be an idea, before you release them?
Everyone here has been discussing this issue and knows all the salient points but these also need to be reflected in the posters, for those that don't?
Also since English isn't your first language then a bit of help around the bullet points at the bottom wouldn't go amiss matey

So lads, you have an extremely great eye catching poster. but the text could do with a wee bit of tweaking IMHO, which I'm sure that Tommy would welcome any input upon.

Re: Bass being commercially exploited again!?
Text on the posters was reviewed already. I'm OK to change it if you have any suggestions. I didn't consult text in the wider audience as I felt that it would be much more difficult to agree on one version.

Re: Bass being commercially exploited again!?
recieved this, this morning from John O Mahoney.
Parliamentary Question No.546 & 588 To ask the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food his views on allowing a commercial fishery for bass in the near future;
the scientific basis for such a decision for stock numbers; the limitations that may be imposed on a new commercial fishery for bass if such a decision was made; and if he will make a statement on the matter.- Simon Coveney.
For WRITTEN answer on Tuesday, 26th January, 2010. Ref No: 3445/10 To ask the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food his plans regarding the granting of permission to allow commercial fishermen fish for bass at sea; the way he will ensure the preservation of the in shore bass stock; and if he will make a statement on the matter.- John O'Mahony.
For WRITTEN answer on Tuesday, 26th January, 2010. Ref No: 3481/10 Proof: 623
REPLY The Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food: (Brendan Smith) I propose to take questions 3445 and 3481 together.
At the moment there are no specific plans in place to allow a resumption of commercial fishing for sea bass. However, the Federation of Irish Fishermen (FIF) has made a proposal regarding the possibility of a limited offshore Sea Bass fishery to my colleague Minster Killeen. Minister Killeen is giving careful consideration to this proposal in conjunction with the Marine Institute and the Sea Fisheries Protection Authority and is particularly conscious of the necessity of maintaining the existing protection afforded to the inshore Sea Bass fishery. This factor is also recognised in the FIF proposal which gives assurances that the inshore Sea Bass fishery around our coast would not be targeted for commercial fishing. Under the FIF proposal, vessels would be permitted to land Sea Bass caught south of (51.30’N) in area VII. This area is approx 50 KM off the SE coast of Ireland. Given the overall economic situation and the challenges facing fishermen generally, Minister Killeen is anxious to pursue any proposal that would create additional commercial fishing opportunities for the Irish fleet. In that context Minister Killeen has written to Minister Lenihan in the Department of Energy, Communications and Natural Resources, who has responsibility for inland fisheries, seeking his views on this proposal before making any final decision in the matter. ______________________________JOHN O'MAHONY TDFine Gael Spokesperson on SportConstituency Office, D'Alton Street, Claremorris, MayoTel 094 9373560 094 9373560 Fax 094 9373379Dáil Office 01 6183706 01 6183706Text 086 326 8041 086 326 8041www.johnomahony.ie

I've had dealings with Tony Killeen before. Waste of space and clueless, for the record. This is my own opinion and one I have the constitutional right to have. It in no way reflects the views of other users of SAI or the site itself.

You are dead right SandTiger. Now I looked at email I got from doggie3131 who reviewed text and he indicated exactly the same corrections - I must have missed them in the process
sorry about that - I emailed a corrected version to jd so he can replace the old ones. Sorry, my bad.

Right Gents, so Minister Killeen is taking a neutral stance until he hears back from Minister Killeen. Soooooo, do you now make informed representations to Minister Killeen?
And should that be as individuals, a unified body or both?
C'mon guys, the troops need to rally around here and not falter at the first hurdle

more a mountain than a hurdle man,i met minister kileen last year at an official meeting-abslutely clueless,no knowledge or understanding of matters fishing(recreational or commercial)and i`d have no faith in conor lenihan either as hes just climbing the political ladder and will simply take the easy option of taking the advice of the only scientific report available to him................hate to admit it but looks like a done deal to me

Hi good Capt'
Off course they have no understanding, for they are Politicians, swayed by votes. Faith, understanding, knowledge etc... are all irrelevant emotions in the Political Arena. It's more about grabbing your opponent by the balls and turning, as you look him in the eye and watch the tear roll down his cheek.
Clueless or not, these are the people that you will have to get onside, because they hold an awful lot of power. As individual anglers you can make Minister Lenihan aware of the socio-economic advantages of Bass Angling as a whole, to rural communities, that are already under financial pressure?
