I of course returned tonight at dead low water to have another crack at our silvery friends. If I thought last night was calm, it wasnt a patch on tonight. The sea was like a mirror, with the moon fairly beaming down. A combination of slack tides and still calm conditions meant it was more like fishing in a pond this evening.

Of course, while the previous days fishing was so good, I could of sworn it was yesterday ( :D ) Reality had to bite somewhere, this is a local Cork beach, not the Cunnigar, I am Petekd, not Cortaz.... Or is it?????? And am I???? Nah, course not :D Had I repeated last nights exploits, I'd have been wondering all the same.....!!

Fishing into a pond may not have been ideal but the big razor baits did the trick again and with a wonderful scrap and a load of tearing around in water not much over ankle deep, another lovely bass eventually slid through the suds and onto the sand. This was followed by 2 LSDs. Not quite the highs of the previous night but sure, hell, on any other day it would have been a great evenings fishing wouldnt it!

Thats exactly what they are, lethal sharp and really doing the business though.

Just wondering Eoghan, from your own experience, when bass are present in quantities such as this, although you dont necessarily want to change a winning combination, would it be worthwhile to whip out the spinning rod and a lure of some description for a bit more sport. Or do you find that if they are foraging about the sea bed looking for scraps they arent as inclined to chase after a lure? Just curious, great sport it was but somewhat overpowered by the PPT sidewinder I was using.

I have been in a similar situation where the sea was swarming with bass and I had the best quality lug and it wasnt touched. Another angler came along with sandeel and started to take a bass nearly every cast. Thankfully the guy offered me a pack of sandeel and I started to catch fish. Its hard to imagine that they become so preoccupied with one type of bait but it clearly happens.
I used to presume that a bass would eat anything it saw within reason but have learned over the years that its not always the case.
The thing is could you manage two rods and a spinning rod with that many fish about.
I fished another location in Kerry when there were tons off bass about, only 2Ib fish but I was using two rods. I had to stop using one rod as I couldnt keep up with the fish.

Basically if you can manage it I would always throw a plug out and use a slow retrieve to mimic an injured mack. Can catch some of the bigger bass in the shoal who arent quite as active as the 5Ib's.
Taking a big bass on an 11ft flexible spinning rod and light line is heaven..!

Savage fishing by the way, green with envy..!! :D
