Hi
i dont bother whipping then on, just remove a leg (the crabs not your own) and hook through the socket and out the back on a stinger rig. hard backs will work as well as peelers. but peelers obvioulsy you have to whip on.
which is half the reason i dont use them, quite hard to get and the hardbacks work just as well if not better.
i use 30 or 50lbs power pro traces to withstand the teeth, but i always use a long shank aberdeen and to be honest i have never landed a wrasse that has managed to get the hook in its mouth past the eye. the power pro is i feel more direct and helps get control.
yeah great scrappers, i love em. my fave sea fish

also the latest version of the rig, which i am now happy with, has the treble hung on an overhand loop (instead of being grinner or blood knotted on) before it is knotless knotted onto the aberdeen. and then i slid a green rubber bead over the shank of the aberdeen insted of shrink tube.
the last time we fished with it it worked a treat. about 50% of the wrasse we had were hooked on the treble only. fish up to 5lbs
its good for the picky fish
