Agree with ya there Drew, I've around a half dozen or so expressing an interest so far. Would it make a difference if we had a tentative stab at a venue and date?

The more the merrier JD, working on picking a venue and dates at moment, can we have some ideas please for a late august, early september venue that would throw up some interesting fishing (ie not just LSDs and flounder... :D ) Taking into account that half the group will be travelling from N.I.

Alright lads, pick the bones out of this....

A paired Rambler comp fished at St. Johns Point, Co. Donegal. A mix of ground, from very rough to patches of clean sand in parts that should throw up an interesting variety of species. Wrasse fishing here can be nothing short of spectacular at times. Fish to be expected here are as follows, Wrasse, Pollack, Coalfish, Garfish, Mackerel, Bull Huss, LSDs, Gurnard, Flatties, Conger, occasional Whiting and Ray.

Access to the mark is easy enough and doesnt involve huge walks or major climbing etc. I suppose we should also pick a beach venue nearby in case of inclement weather. Anyone staying over could use Donegal Town as a base I suppose, loads of B & Bs etc around there or camp at St. Johns Point itself.

Because of the kind of venue it is, fish it in pairs, ie One Northern member paired with a Southern member for scoring purposes.

I propose fishing it either the weekend of 19/08, 26/08 or 02/09.

Can I have your thoughts and opinions please? The more the merrier incidentally, there should be plenty of room to accommodate the masses...! :D

We can decide the scoring system later on, I have seen days there where its a fish a cast as far as Wrasse are concerned and this would have to be taken into account...... :P

I would second this.

I fished this mark last weekend along with GADSAC - great spot and nearly all the afrorementioned fish were caught.

Wrasse? Un-feckin-believable.

There is a campsite near the entrance to St. John's point - great facilities and only €9 per head per night.

I would highly reccommend this mark for a comp.

This seems to have been greeted with a deafening air of silence.... do we not like the venue, the type of fishing or the dates....??? Drew appears to have gone AWOL at the mo, another couple of regular posters are missing also but any chance of anyone else who was interested giving their opinion please.

personally speaking I would prefer a beach competition somewhere as I hate rock hopping and not too gone on spining

Alright so ante up :D .... a few recommendations then lads. A beach, somewhere relatively civilised that doesnt involve horrible long walks or ordnance survey maps to find, that will throw up a few fish. Somewhere that isnt a ridiculous drive from the North also, bearing in mind (hopefully) half the participants will come from that neck of the woods. Makes no difference to me where it is TBH as I'll be travelling from Cork....

Just a thought if people after a beach to fish with easy routes for all.

why not Downhill-benone.

As for date sep better as it may take that long for all to get sorted.

I think one from south and drew from north should just say when and were as everyone will have problems with a date. But if one picked then people have a set date they can try work around and towards.
