Lidl reel - funny looking yoke

I bought the tripod last year and as with another post it has helped rekindle my intrest in the sport. I find the tripod OK but for a tenner I had no problem getting it. I would have found it hard to spend more on a 'good' tripod, not knowing if I'd use it much. However when the Lidl rest fails me, I'll be happy to spend more on a good one.

Hi, the fly rods last year in lidl wern't shifting so the price was reduced to 28 euro. Decided to buy one.
It may not be top quality but it's my first fly rod and introduces me to the sport for so cheap.
I had never fly fished before and haven't caught anything on it but it seems ok and at least it gets a fly in the water. :D

Steer clear of reels that cos less than £50, Bits fall off them.

I was just pointing it out for a bit of fun. I might be a novice to angling and to this forum, but I'm mildly offended/embarrassed that someone would think I was gonna buy it! (This said in the same light hearted manner that my original post was intended!)

I'll presume you're referring to Lidl and not suggesting I'm trying "a maneuver" as the the Yank online dictionary puts it. :lol:

Wouldn't get too caught up on price of gear or how good yours is. Remember when you bought your new fancy shmancy beach caster and as you stood there catching cold there was an old codger with a broom handle and a Lidl reel loaded with hairy twine who was cleaning up? :oops: It turned out he knew what he was doing :D And he's not telling :(

so by the time you have read this you'll have been to lidl, seen the reel and contemplated its worth as a spare to go in the back of the car with one of the rods,
i myself will be heading down to lidle in a few hours and checking out the depth counters, and possibly getting a few of them because they'll always be someone who missed out due to work or sold out quickly (which sometime happens, ive seen queues in the morning for the silliest of things.)

so own up, who bought the reel???

Haha not me!
Picked up a fly rod for the laugh, set of cheap spinners and the wading baby-gro. (No boots at the end, meant to be worn inside your own wellies. The proper waders wouldn't fit me).

Didn't see any reels shifting, or the depth finders.

i'll be waiting for the fly rods to reduce in price, stilll loads when i went in..
picked up two depth counters and one of the weight boxes, but will need to re tie the rigs, i never trust pre made rigs, they always fly off mid cast..

all the reels had been long gone, overheard one of the staff talking to customer about queue in the morning for reels..

made it there for around 9.30ish this morning and there were no queues but plenty of folks buying fishing gear.
I bought the fly setup as I've never tried it before.
also got a bite alarm as a backup to my others.
seems worth the money.
there was around 4 reels but plenty of the other stuff still left.
I didn't buy the reel :o

just put up a pic in my gallery of the catch i had last year with the smaller fly rod from lidl,
so i might get the longer version as well... mucho fun with big fish...

I'm too late to look at the fishing gear thisweek, but I bought one of the bite detectors and bank stick combos last year and it has served very well for pike fishing.

I bought two pairs of good quality pliers in Lidl yesterday that are ideal for crimping, making and cutting traces.

Yellow & Black chunky handles. Carry the label 'S+K' and a German quality marking.

They cost only £1.99 each up North (not sure what they are going for in the Rep. of Ireland. Long Nose Pliers (200mm) and diagonal cutting pliers (160mm).

They are ideal for making pike traces (I know this is a sea fishing site but I'm sure there area a few sea anglers who go winter piking)

bought the tripod as it was cheap and decent, it will do well for putting spare rods on and hanging the lamp on whilst night fishing.
at the size it is it will also stay in my boot with a telescopic rod just incase i get the urge for a chuck whilst out for a drive some day!
the telescopic net will do well for getting shrimp in rock pools too!
