Fished carrigaholt, bridges & loop. Plenty of doggies, thornbacks, sea trout & mullet. Spent about 1hr in each location on the feathers and another 1hr on a wedge with nothing to report. Seems it's still a little early despite the glorious weather. I did see huge shoals of launce around so I reckon it can't be too far off. Strangely enough we didn't encounter a single pollock either.

Walked The back of east pier Dun laoghaire yesterday, lure fishing for pollock. Had no luck, so put on feathers when I reached the end of the pier at high water and gave it a bash for 30 mins. Caught one tiny mack about 5 inches long.

Fished Balscadden, Howth, Co.Dublin each of the last 4 days......last 3hrs of flood and 1hr of falling tide.....a few being caught but very scarce and alot are quite small,

Did watch the most elegant Sunfish cruise past the rocks at Balscadden today about 15m off shore....... amazing to see off our coast.
I will try to upload the very poor pictures I got.

Looks like they are finally making an appearance at Dún Laoghaire. I was in Rorys around 1.30pm today and met a guy just back from a session in Dún Laoghaire. He proudly opened his paint bucket and showed us all that it was full of mackerel. His English was as bad as my Polish so don't know what part of the harbour he was fishing from but he appeared to have been casting seaward and not into the harbor area itself. Worth a try anyway!

No mackerel in Clogherhead this morning. There were boats ploughing for razorfish, which made the water quite sandy. I was a bit bored so tried some small hooks and caught a few sprat and baby pollock. The people there said that there had been about a dozen caught over the past few weeks.

The scarcity of mackerel in our inshore waters is an absolute disgrace...late July, fine weather...marks should be heaving with mackerel.
I remember the 80's and 90's when at least there was plenty around...this is absurd...obviously overfished and being cleaned out further out at sea...greedy bas*ards.

I caught 4 at Blackhead, Co. Clare yesterday...only joeys...nothing of any size.

Kilkee, Castle Point, macks being caught, small. Joint crowded, dirty, dangerous, and no fun, did not have a go. BUT their there might try from a more agreeable spot.

Fished a few times at Cobh last 3 weeks and blanked. Not a sign.
Hit ballycotyon today with kids hour before high. Couldn't get a spot towards deep water so fished the wall to island. Blanked but spotted about 30 pulled over the pier. Some lads catching 4 and 5.
However people were should to shoulder deep on pier. Lots of folks turning up 5 mins before high tide expecting others to make way for them on pier. I'm happy to blank and enjoy day, but it was stressful watching. Apparantly people were getting so uptight, one guy caught a fish and as he was taking Mack off hook another too his spot. As he tried to get back in another started casting over him from behind.... Crazy... One guy threatened to cut another fisherman and throw him off the pier. Not good for the kids there...
I'll not go back till winter and the Mackie bashers are gone.... Damn I miss my boat...
