The Shimano Aernos 2500 is an absolute beaut of a reel and for around €85 it's a steal, it looks great and I cannot find any fault with it, great line lay, nice and smooth and loaded with 18lb braid you will have a bargain. I have caught Pollock up to 14lb and Wrasse up to 5.5lb with this reel.

i priced it and i could pick it up for 105 euro which was the cheapest i could find

Really, I got one 3 months ago with 18lb powerpro for €100, I got in in a shop in Dublin.

Just git a 7ft salty to go with the 8ft, under 50 quid, Brilliant! nicer rod IMHO, than the vengeance which also have.

yaa sailnfish ive decided im defo going to pick the salty as it seems to be a top rod ill prob go 7ft though

so ive 40-45 quid for a reel might try pick up the extra few bob and get the exage aswell what size would u recommend ?

ordered it in TH sports midleton, he had it in less than a week. 45 Euro for the 7ft And it's lovely. There's nothing at all wrong with Vengeance but the surecatch is better value for the money and I have both of them beside me as I write this amongst others!

The 8ft salty, 7ft Vendetta, 8ft Vengeance, and 7ft Salty. The 8ft Abu Devil is missing from the pic as Its at home due to the tip getting broken in the car door, it would definitely be there otherwise

In terms of reels, a newer front drag exage 3000 shallow spool would be nice on a 7ft salty IMO. I have no experience of the Daiwa sweepfire so I wouldn't comment on it either way. Best of luck whatever you go for

None of the rods you are looking at are bad so happy days

I've a 2006 3.2m honda marine ( as they were called then). Great little dinghy. Its showing the affects of years of UV damage now though !

I would recommend a salty anyday, I have a 7ft great rod, I was thinking of buying a 8ft Vengeance as a second rod what reel would you recomend to go with it, i have a small ryobi reel with i love but its alway good to have a spare reel or three

I mainly use Daiwa reels these days, but I have no doubt that lower priced shimano reels are better than lower priced Daiwa reels. At the price you simply cannot fault the Exage in 2500 or 3000 size. Its worth the extra few bob and will last for years if you give it a rinse after each trip. If you can, try and up the budget to get yourself an exage. You should be able to pick up a 2500/3000 size for about 80 in Ireland.

The 2500/3000 exage are the same size reel. So if you are fishing with mono go with 2500, if you are fishing with braid only go with 3000 (the 3000 just has a shallower spool to take less line).

Also bear in mind that a Daiwa 3000 is not the same size as a Shimano 3000! As a rule of thumb a shimano 4000 is the same size as a Daiwa 3000.
