What Rod and Reel Mainline are you throwing your lures with Dan? 7g seems awful heavy, don't think I've thrown 7g on any of my LRF rods yet, We tend to stick around the 1-3.5g sort of area...
The rod is a spider wire delux travel rod it is 5ft 6" rated for 2,8lb line. It also says 1/16 -3/8lure ??? Reels is a match to rod same make and it says sm200 iar, + it says 80yrds of 4lb line. So I put on it 10lb mono line but would braid be better? I got quarter oz line weights to put on before the hook and lure . But I've ball shot and smaller hollow point leads too. The ground will be rough bolder and weed ground rock and pier and I've bait fished both areas and I've had smallish and big pollack and rass to 3.5 lb and pollck to 4 lb + . And conger.. . . So thats why I was think of the 10lb line. So what should I do different or change and if you say every thing I don't mind .
I picked up a Rockfish L at the Swords show on sunday, now thinking i shoulda got the UL instead tho:roll: , had planned to get a reel as well but that didnt happen as there were none of the reels i wanted left, so, will pick up a reel in the coming weeks, probs be a Shimano Exage 1000fc,
So, with that part of the gear pretty much sorted what i need now is an idea of what end tackle i should be looking at as a start up set, ie, line, leader, lures, jig heads and weights etc.... So gents, suggestions please
Got one at the show man, lovely reel, stuck it on my Zaltz, perfect pairing! As for lures and stuff I'll write a wee list of those tomorrow when I'm not wrecked!

I had a touch and feel of a Exage 1000fc at the show on saturday and have to say it felt good, shoulda picked one up then when i had the chance, i went back on the Sunday with the intention of negotiating a better price, but it seemed that no-one had any left , there were plenty of the 2500 size but i figured that size was just too big....

And the length of time it took you to decide and now your not happy so give me 1st bags on the rod
Sorry man, no excuse for not watching this thread or replying
Heads
I'm no expert but I've found:
If you're tripping over and between boulders and not wanting to break the bank, AGM Finesse jigheads are a must, cheap as chips these are proven fish catchers which you're not afraid to risk in the crappy ground. http://www.agmdiscountfishing.co.uk/fin ... -3005.html
My personal favourite for both tripping bottom and straight retrieve is the Ecogear Shirasu fine head, it seems to come back at a nice angle on a straight retrieve and well as keeping the hook upright when you're tripping bottom, expensive though at £5.99st for a pack of 5. http://www.artoffishing.co.uk/lrf-fishi ... c031cl3f44
For the pelagic bashing (Herring, Smelt, Mackeral), as well as pollack I've been doing ok with Aquawave Lock heads, which come with a mono barb for mounting your SPs. http://www.mrfishjersey.com/jigheads/aq ... -6g-8.html
Lures
All down to personal preference and venues I suppose but my top 3 lures since I started would be ( in no order )

First off you buy the last Exage at the show then you make me wait for some ideas of end tackle for LRF'ing.....

Still have more experience than me, i'm gonna have a proper look through that site and id say once i get through it my CC may need to be locked away to recover
Great too see this thread on here Drew nice one , been doing LRF for over 2 yrs now its the best fun I've had while fishing
I think a landing net is a must with this as it would be a shame to lose a good bonus fish through the lack of a net
The setup I use is a major craft solpara 732 solid tip 0.5-5g with a caldia 2506 , I prefer this size reel for lrf especially when fishing flourocarbon straight through. Smaller diameter reels can cause some problems with line memory issues and castability. As for the Solpara rod I cannot find a
fault with this rod and although there are more expensive rods around I just haven't found one that has made me seriously consider upgrading.
The range of lures available is huge just google LRF lures and you'll see what i mean , its fantastic to see
Also as has been said earlier on this thread anyone considering LRF should take a look on AGM Discount Fishing for lures and terminal tackle the range on there is great.
for anyone interested, dan at halfway tackle has gotten in a selection of lrf gear. it tempts me more every time i go in. might pick up a set myself for the summer to see what all the craic is about.
Stepping away from the end tackle side of things for a moment, I'm currently on the search for a couple of suitable reels, I've pretty much decided on a exage 1000fc, what I can't decide tho, for the second reel should I be looking at a slightly bigger size or just stay to the smaller size... I plan to use braid with a flourocarbon leader...
