Genuine question, I am not aware of the background of either competition but I haven't heard the "Irish Bass Sea Angling Festival" mentioned in the same light as it is in some of the comments here?
Hi Thirty,
A few differences would be the one being ran out of Waterford covers the entire Waterford Coast, a stretch that is encompasses an awful lot of ground and numerous marks. This one is being run on a much smaller area (the Hook Peninsula) with much fewer marks resulting in a lot more angling pressure.
Wexford has particular problems at the moment that Waterford does not in terms of lots of recreational anglers descending on various marks and removing excessive numbers of bass (undersize aswell as over the 2 legal limit). there is a very real fear that this event will move these 'anglers' to more marks.
They are just a couple.

I still don't know why they don't make it an all species festival which would open up a lot of other ground for anglers to fish?

This could also be asked of the festival in July?

To refer too other posts already made what's the overall goal, motivation, benefit of any of these festivals?

Is it personal gain? Local economy? Tourism? Or the bass themselves ( I think not)?

Bass poaching has been there from back when!..... It was there after the conservation was introduced. It is there now.

These events will not change that in any way....

If you think that the poachers don't already know EVERY SINGLE bass spot in the country then you living in a bubble.
