talk to them? the ones i have met are all drunk and only edging for a punch up.and bazzer you called it as it is, the groups you mention are the nationalities we see regularly at the piers and harbours .i have approached plenty and was given the middle finger and told to fcuk off mind my own bussiness. our own summer drunks[for want of a better word]are quiet willing to listen and will throw back small fish.they also wont bully there way into a spot. last year on howth pier there was punch ups every day over this is my spot.by guys drunk and bullying others even kids out of there spots. all foreign gangs groups of 8 -10. fires and barbques left burning at balscadden .i know of one guy from nth inner city last year was thrown off the rocks at balscadden by 5 poles who arrived an hour after he had set up. they started casting over his head. he had 2 kids with him he confronted one of them who was crossing his lines every cast. 1 of the others came behind and pushed him in.he climbed back up and was told to pack up his kids were terrified.needless to say a phone call later balanced the odds a lot better .but i dont think the mans kids will be brought again.this is a trend all around the country have a look through old posts here and see how many there are .

I never fished as described above, never caused any probs, shared my crabs if i didnt need them anymore, never took undersize fish and i use my common sense about the fish size to take home. Last night released 3 pollocks in Clonakilty and took home only 1, size about 1.5lb (shore fishing)
BUT couple months ago i got abused by a local sports angler in Youghal ! Was friendly to him when arrived, asked about the luck and didnt disturb him after our friendly meet, everything was ok until his friends arrived. Was fishing about 10 meters from him and heard what he told to his friends: Watch your step, theres a feking polish **** down there. (even when im not polish or any nationality mentioned above). And he said that TWICE as the first time his friend didnt hear him !
Well, first thing i really wanted to do is to push that idiot down from the cliffs, i took a deep breath and though, well, fuk it, hes more happy in the way he is in a minute.
Theres always 2 sides on the coin !
Dont get me wrong now, ive met hundreds of other local anglers and never had any probs, well, at least i didnt hear anything in person. So should i press the racist button now because of 1 muppet and case ?
Short answer is NO !

What are the solutions so ?
Bring up some laws, make some leaflets and share them, otherwise this thread is again just a random rant over foreigners ...

i've also seen this type of fishing(or so called fishing)
what ever is caught is kept no-matter what size or species.

i was fishing on my own one night and approx 5 others arrived.they all talked to each other in their own language, which i don't have a problem with.as the night went on i noticed that everything was being kept by them.one came over to me and TOLD me to keep them all the fish i caught.i was catching and releasing.
i could see they were watching me closely and i started to feel intimidated........maybe i was wrong, but i just a bit threatened as there was 5 of them and just 1 of me......oh and i think what was making it worse was that all 5 were drinking heavily.
i know this is not against the law etc.......but from other people i was talking to, this seem to be a regular occurance

no offence to anyone and this was my observation from one nights fishing and i do agree that some people do need to be told what is acceptable-but on this instance there was no way on earth i was going to try and tell 5 guys that were drinking heavily that they should really be releasing the smaller fish

maybe a sign or two on piers and local fishing hotspots telling people only to keep what they are going to eat and to release everything else.any fish under sized should also be released....

this type of fishing has also been observed by other people and is not only done just by foreigners but they do seen to be the biggest culprets.......again no offence to anyone

Foreign Nationals ( a sensible discussion.....)

#27 Post by dfella25 »

Damn them foreign nationals! Taken out boats and sucking up the mussel and shell fish beds all along the coast. Their killing the Eco systems and destroying our sport. Wiping out entire food systems from the tiny fish that feed along these beds to the big fish that feed off them. Leaving behind nothing but a barren desert with no chance for living systems to reestablish in these raped areas.

And they've been doing it for decades! .....Oh wait.

This thread is retarded as are the opinions been thrown about. You want a sensible discussion about the down fall of shore angling? Look closer to home.

I agree. And the best thing is, I get to have the last word on it.
