Get down there in a group yourselves lads and picket the mark. Mob handed. Intimidate them out of it. First sign of trouble, phone the guards.

Easy for me in Donegal to say......

Seriously good idea there must be loads of lads in Wexford, Waterford only to happy to get together some day/night and get these guys arrested or just stopped. All go out on the same night check a different beach then phone each other and meet somewhere near, phone guards and bring them down to them. They are doing something like this over the coarse fishing to.

I must agree with the sentiment that people local to the area need to band together and protect their marks.

I'm not talking about bashing heads here, there's no place in our fight to protect bass for that sort of solution.

Even a small group of lads going down to an area that is getting fished hard by a group of takers and showing their presence would be a great help. Just point to the signs and voice your objections. Do the same thing you would do if you were on your own trying to educate a young and ignorant angler. Except this time you're doing it to people who just don't care and you're doing it safe in the protection of a group. A Violent, oppressive and angry person is less likely to strike out at a group of people. And if he/she does you then have protection. Then there's also the added bonus of witnesses!

Perhaps each and every person that witnesses illegal activity can make sure they all report it within the same hour?

I know sometimes the IFI are a bit casual and complacent but at the same time there are also some really good people that want change.
However, the complacent IFI staff can lead some people to madness, it gets very frustrating. But I believe we all must keep making the reports and retain some belief and hope.

Whether we like it or not the IFI are the organisation responsible for policing the bass stocks (with greater jurisdiction since the end of 2011) and frustrated or not we have to work with these people. Try and be happy when something is done and be grateful that it's being done. If you encounter frustration please just bite your lip and move on. Anger and resentment does nothing but ruin your relationship with the IFI and leaves your emotional and physical state a lot worse off. Just let it go.

There is going to come a time either very soon or some distance away in the future that all the calls, complaints and reports that we should be making will actually matter and will result in positive action. When that time comes we can't afford to be sitting at home in a bitter humour after giving up hope!

We all know the famous saying 'all it takes for evil to prevail is for good men to stand by and do nothing' or something like that!?

10 lads and 3 video cameras would be enough to rattle any poacher....

Walk onto the mark and start recording everything they do and also make sure you record them driving away because that way they can be traced by their car reg.

5 lads would be more than enough. The guards might not care much of a fig for out of season bass fishng, but they'd take more of an interest in public order offences being reported to them. It would only take a couple or three cases for the message to get out to the illegal anglers.

Well, i think you guys are a bit overacting here with this thread.
Make sure you have a decent camera recording in a dark and distance. If anyone comes near me with a camera while im fishing for flounder, ray, crab, cod etc, i will nicely ask to __ off and not to film me ! Do i have these rights ?
Keep your eyes open, do what you have to do, but all this rescue mission here gets a bit ridiculous ... Really, direct your energy towards the trawlers and net anglers !
I hope you get satisfaction if you catch a fella who caught 1 mullet and you were wrong ... As in a dark they look similar ?
Also dont forget the fact that the scumbags can also record your vehicle reg and think of revenge ...

Yes you can film whatever you want but if you going personal you have to ask a permission from the person you annoying with your camera, some research will help you here !
And then if you get some pics, so called "victim" will ask you in the court room, where are the pictures where he released the fish ? All pics are so dark so you wont recognize anyone and just making a fool out of yourself ?

Why? we are all looking for a solution here and some good ideas. You seem to want to stop us doing anything and chase the trawlers? much harder!!
I'm hearing stories of hundreds of bass being taken from the coast why should you not approach these people. It doesn't have to be aggressive at all
no one wants that. Once they even know they are being watched don't you think they are gonna think twice about the next time. They are gonna be thinking maybe next time the guards may be watching.
I agree with what Kstaff says if it's a mark that is being badly hit by poaching it should be named because its already ruined anyway and the more eyes on it the better. I seen two guys a few weeks ago at a well known mark in wexford (if your in the know) and they where casing the place at low tide probably to set nets that night. One guy seem to be showing the other guy what to.
They could have been collecting seaweed but they where very interested in us watching them. If I lived down there I would have been back that night with a high beam torch or something, anything just let them knnow they are being watched!!

Will that work in court, thats another question ! With your hyper activity you may need a solicitor and CAN lose the case ... as theres no strict law in that case and a judge can be very democratic and against your views ...

If the law was changed from being allowed bring 1 bass rather than 2, would it be more benefical than a month of no fishing? Or what about placing a "no fish to be kept period", maybe 2 months where fishing was allowed but no bass could be kept?
Does the month make a difference, surely the taking of fish is more detrimental?
From what i understand and i am open to correction on this but the month came in originally as it was taught that this was the bass's spawning season but in fact there is no real research or data to back this up and it is more of a theory?
I know that recreational fishing for bass doesnt even touch the numbers that trawlers (be it accidental or not) and illegal netting take but as a keen bass angler i think that by dropping the number of fish a person can take and by allowing them to be fished for but not kept might be the way forward.
I am not a vigalante on this opinion so no need for anyone to jump down my throat, i totally agree with the ban and by no way am i saying it should go but i just wondered what other peoples taughts were on it?
I know its a sensitive subject with people and i have said it to people myself during the month as i always give people the benefit of the doubt, some people just need to be educated and some just need a little reminder.
