Play the percentages, if the weather is poor and the sea conditions equally then stay at home. Go fresh water fishing during Feb, Mar, April (especially if living in the east and south east), and only hit places like the beara and sheepshead when the long range gives fair weather with light winds, blanks will diminish greatly or disappear. Keep the head up.

It is odd to think there is little use fishing in the southeast during those months when there was comps won with 20+ bags of fish on various venues in wexford in those months this year.April produced plenty of bass,flounder and some nice size smoothound on some marks, there is no need to drive from wexford to west cork in spring to catch fish.

I live 10 mins from some of the so called best beaches in cork and let me tell ya it is not all cracked up to what its meant to be.the last few weeks have been well, shocking pure crap the only good rattle i have had the last few weeks was the frame of an old chair. to be honest when i think about it i would say i blank more times than i get fish.

but keep the head up because the longer it goes on the more chance you have of getting a good one.when i go blank after blank i say to myself im just getting them out the way for next few weeks all in one go. so at the moment im sitting and waiting for them to just come one of the nights and bend the rod in half .every night i go out i say that to myself tonight the night im going to get that monster if we didnt say that we would never go out thats the crack with fishing you just never know.but in saying all that if i dont get one soon il go off me head

First things first we all blank at some stage.

Years ago when I went through that blanking stage while fishing competitions I would head off the following day to the “long walk” in Kinsale and bang in doublers of doggies in every cast. I was always a great way of getting the confidence back.

So go find yourself somewhere that will produce fish, to hell with how small they are, and start catching. Soon that feeling will come back and all this will be a forgotten nightmare

your just feckin jinxed ! i go fishing and catch 100 fish in two hours ,i go with you and i fill a skip with weed thats fishing brian ,we kinda guessed we where onto a hiding and we where right so in a way we got exactly what we expected ,but think of all the roads we drove down in the pitch black that we will never find again wexford the county of the invisible sign post!and a village with no pub

i took your advice (well i was going anyway!)

headed to greatmans bay yesterday - was losing hooks nearly every cast

the coral must be all over the place - didnt lose my first rig until about 2 hours in

gave it one hour more - no joy - think id have a heart attack with a pin whiting at this stage

great looking spot though - well worn path down there too!

but place not covered in rubbish

The last 10 days have not been great for me either, I headed out for 4 bait sessions (3 beach , 1 estuary) but was beaten by weed. Each time within only minute of making the first cast I snagged huge clumps of weed despite the beaches looking clean. I havn't seen a fish for nearly two weeks
