Rare enough from a boat, let alone the shore! Did you release the little critter or take it back for dinner? Only reason I ask is that by all accounts they're about as good an eating fish as there is. Not often you get the chance to try something like that, even the commercials don't get them very often.

Re: antrim and down something a bit special 17th & 18th sep
nice on al, say what you want about the pier it does throw up the odd good one now and then, I had a hake of it around 15 years ago and I still talk about it
looks like you could be talking about the john for years to come aswell.
Y'all know me. Know how I earn a livin'. I'll catch this bird for you, but it ain't gonna be easy. Bad fish. Not like going down the pond chasin' bluegills and tommycods. This shark, swallow you whole. Little shakin', little tenderizin', an' down you go. And we gotta do it quick, that'll bring back your tourists, put all your businesses on a payin' basis. But it's not gonna be pleasant. I value my neck a lot more than three thousand bucks, chief. I'll find him for three, but I'll catch him, and kill him, for ten. But you've gotta make up your minds. If you want to stay alive, then ante up. If you want to play it cheap, be on welfare the whole winter. I don't want no volunteers, I don't want no mates, there's just too many captains on this island. Ten thousand dollars for me by myself. For that you get the head, the tail, the whole damn thing.
2010- Sea Trout, Codling, Pollock, Coalie, Whiting, Flounder, Doggies, Plaice, Dab.

Nice one Al, I'm well jealous of the dory.
If someone shows you a mark to fish, respect it and dont pass it of as one of your own, dont tell every man and his dog about it.

cheers bootster. there seems to ba a lot of old nonsense regarding good eating fish from the sea. so far we've had pouting, coalfish, pollock, gurnard, cod, ling, flounder, turbot, plaice, whiting and bass all deep fried in beer batter. and to be honest a lot of them all taste the same provided they are cooked within 48 hours of being caught. obviously some such as ling and cod are more chunky, but there's not a great deal of difference to be honest. we've been out on boat trips and some lads have said to us not to bother with the coalies and pouting as they taste foul. but when i asked them when did they try them, they replied "oh i never bothered to try them because i was told they were stinking"bootster wrote:Rare enough from a boat, let alone the shore!
