cheers man. we've caught quite a few non migratory red reef cod over the past few years, but that was the deepest red one yet. i read somewhere that it's because they choose to live among the kelp and eat everything that feeds on it that you get that transfere of iodine from the kelp through the food chain to the codling. where as a cod who chooses to leave the relitave safety of the kelp forests to live over the clean sandy areas adopts the trademark yellowy/brown/green colour we are all familiar with

. one of the great things with this old fishing lark is that you learn something new every day lol

hard to beat an old doggie session man

. i do'nt know why they get such a ripping from some anglers

at least they put a good bend in the rod and have saved us many a blank

. one lesson i did learn from that session was to up the breaking strain of my snood lengths when targeting huss as that one was only 7lb 12oz and made short work of the 30lb amnesia

nice one dawsey. i'll have to get down for a go at the minis myself as i'm still short of a corkwing wrasse and rockcook wrasse for my list this year. a mini session might be on the cards for us man
nobuzz wrote:Nice Gurnard.
The very first fish I ever caught was a Gurnard (not sure whether a Grey or a Tub) off the the old wooden North Pier in Bangor.
Would you believe I got it on a Red & Gold Mepps spinnner!!!!!
That was 30 years ago. Never had one since.
Also, my second fish was a sole from the same venue. Again, never had one since.
thanks alan. hopefully it's a good sign for the lough as there are some species not seen for a few years making a comeback now. althow i think it would be a long time before it would be restored to it's former glory with rays, spurdog, tope and anglerfish making a return

but we live in hope!!
pol2768 wrote:Well done lads nice fishing .well done with the Huss Al nice fish

cheers man. i actually underestimated it's weight before getting it on the scales as i reckoned it was about 5lb. so you could imagine the look on my face when the scales settled at 7lb 12oz

Looks like quite a unique spot

cheers man. brilliant wee mark. just a pity it's only big enough for 3 lads fishing 2 rods each. but we'll be back with a better selection of baits to see what else lives around there
eyesreilly wrote:Well done lads ,some cracking fish there, congrats on the pB,thats a fine huss and the Gurnards are always welcome in my book,i'll have to get myself a lucky hat when i get rid of me lucky yellow trousers

thanks dave. i'll have to look out my lucky hat too as the tub is the only gurnard of the main 3 that has evaded me so far this year
