The mag control snapped off from my sports mag elite and I pulled the rest of it off as the sand was making it real stiff.
l the reel works much better now and its a lot easier to control for casting and I will attach something on to the bit thats left for easier grip.
I also use two magnets with my 525 mags as they cast more like a mag elite with two mags just pop em out with a small penn knife and she casts like a dream.

HAVING FIXED BOTH MODELS ON A REGULAR BASIS GO FOR THE PENN EVERY TIME.THE GEARS ARE BETTER,THE DRAG IS BETTER.THE REEL ON A WHOLE IS FIRST CLASS BUILD WISE.ABUS HAVE CHANGED SINCE EARLY EIGHTIES .THERE ARE QUITE A FEW PLASTIC PARTS INSIDE THAT WERE ORIGINALLY S/STEEL.I HAVE SEEN MAG ABUS TOTALLED FROM NEW WITHIN MONTHS DUE TO LACK OF MAINTENANCE AND WATER INGRESS.PENN MAGS ARE BULLETPROOF
