Re: tastiest fish!
Now to throw a spanner in the works...............
Do you eat the skin on your fish
I for one, love the skin, so long as its crispy.
If oven baking the fish ( take note eric
) , fry it skin side down first, then bake.

but is there such a thing as a wild rainbow trout in ireland, are they not all in man made farms/ponds and not wild at all.
There is, I think, 3 lakes in Europe that have a self-sustaining wild rainbow trout population. One of which is in Ireland, in Donegal. I'm loathe to name it publically, because it's under some pressure nowadays and I wouldn't want to add to that.
So, it is possible to catch a wild rainbow trout in Ireland.

Best fish - Black Bream, for taste and fighting ability.
I've never caught or tasted the Gilthead. Sea Trout is a good one, as is Gurnard. Turbot would be pipped to the pan by Brill. and let's not forget the humble Mackeral, if caught within the previous couple of hours. Wild Salmon steaks fried in the pan are great, as are whole herrings.
Fish are great.

Perhaps I should have said places, because I don't really know what the other 2 European waters are.

If I'm thinking about the same place you are, and I know no other Rainbow waters near Muckish, then No, those fish definitely aren't breeding themselves.

I think bass with the skin on and crispy is hard to beat, with cod and haddock also high on my list

Re: tastiest fish!
Fresh Lemon Sole shallow fried, topped with lemon juice. Serve with chips & salad. (Kehoe's pub in Kilmore Quay do an amazing sole - 4 fillets in a portion - the best fish I've ever had
)
"Dommo's" Cork Harbour Ling, Filleted, baked next day in tin foil with cherry tomatoes. Superb!!
Lobster is overrated I reckon, but whole Langostines (Dublin bay prawns are fantastic, really sweet).
Dab is another amazing fish, really simple, cut head off extract guts, pan fry for a minute each side, squeeze of lemon!!!
