That info on Nematodes is interesting in a 'I wish I didn't know that' kind of way :?

Anyway I was in my uncle's boat in Connemara one evening a couple of weeks ago. We got some fine pollack, one in particular, gutted within 1 hour of being caught, and filleted the next morning had a lot of those little effers in the muscle of the belly area. Cook well is the answer I suppose :shock:

I'm alway interested in trying out fish different ways, mackeral sushi would have been on my list, but I've seen some macks that make me realise that fried for a long time in hot oil will always be the winner for me :)

How do the sushi bars of the world protect against giving you a hession bag for a stomach??

Maybe, but thats how it is for me! :(

Soon as I have a bone in my mouth, the chokers start to come over me. Maybe its just a brain reaction, I dunno - but it does. Other than that, I love fish!

Re Nematodes - I had to kill a wrasse recently as it swallowed the hook, and when I took it out for a pic a few hours later, tiny worms were crawling out its mouth and gills (I didnt clean it on the rock). I was going to keep it for fish stock, think I'll throw it out now.

Re. Pollock being bottom feeders - so are Cod! I think prejudices come from the fact Pollock are always plentiful and accessible. I read somehwere there is an ingrained prejudice in Ireland against our own seafood in general due to the famine, when people were forced to eat more seafood, so stigmatising it. my two cents.

You should see what is crawling around the stomach of your average cow or sheep. Scary stuff.
