fair play to him,great fish

does everything on this site turn into a catch and release war?here is a record fish from england and a irish site is tearing into him for killing it!not been smart but it seems like people should cut fish in half trow half back and keep half!!!every one happy and u might just get more people posting on site :roll: its a good site but people seem to hate others getting big fish!ive been reading some posts latley bout all the cod we getting down here and it goes back to the same war again to be honest its a laugh.ive been attacked on this site before for big bass and havent bothered posting some pics of big bass ive taken over last 3 weeks,up to 12lb,which ive kept one and saw two swim away,even when u release u get the why didnt u keep it u had a rite to!u cant win.fair play to him on the fish above great catch and we can all just be jelous,hope he claims the new record and enjoys every min of it 8)

Well it happens with most post's, anybody that keeps a fish is judged and set upon. I no most are only doing what is right for the sport but its too much to keep on an on about it in every couple of posts, as i said before if you have something to say about it send them a Pm and tell them, it just ends up the recking all the posts and starting ground hog debates!!!

to be fair tbag that's the biggest rant yet.

i agree with Bradan. the fish was probably not far off death(i could be wrong) and it will have spawned 25+ times(again, i could be wrong) so there isn't a problem that i can see. the problem i have is killing fish for the specimen award as one of the really good things about this country is you don't have to kill the fish to claim a specimen.

another thing is that other anglers see these people with big dead fish and then think it is ok to go out and kill a big fish for a trophy. for instance i saw a photo in a magazine of a 55lb shore tope....that was killed purely for a photo. disgusting.

Guys.. focus for a second.. if a 19lbs bass was caught over there then there is a good chance of record fish over here, seeing as we have alot more unspoilt coastline, and a few laws to protect the species to grow to a good size..

and can you honestly tell me if you caught a record fish all you would do is take a photo and weigh it.. and put it back.. the bragging rights alone for a fish that size would last a lifetime... i personally would get a mould and have a replica cast of the fish.. plus there would be quiter a few dinners in a fish that size too(wonder would it taste the same though)

as for the catch and release fanatics. we have heard it all before and on numerous times, we understand what your saying, but there are quite a few of us that have family's to feed and i for one wont see a good dinner wasted..

if its a legally caught fish and its kept for the plate, no-one deserves to get abuse for killing a fish..

so instead of giving out, think of the possiility of record fish out there and the chance of catching one.. they are there as proven by the angler in England. i recon we have bigger over here and a chance to smash that world record :D

the mods - need to just post a link of the last debate and if youve anything to add post there - so each time it gets nipped in the bud - and the ol debate can go off in whatever tangents it wants in some sticky etc.

and the the report can go back to tactics, bait etc.

its not as if any of these debates really state anything new most of the time

there was one about a month or two ago that did have some good scientific articles quoted etc.

so if it really is seen as bringing the site down - at least the debate will be in a place of its own - and all knives can be drawn and more importatnly the same stuff isnt written over and over and over again

cracking fish by the by and god knows i would have been in the drink if that fish started a fight with me :shock:

That's some fish alright. I'd like to think that there are fish of that size in Irish waters too, there must be out there somewhere. What's the current record 17lbs or something like that?

On a sort of related note to the debate about having to killing record fish etc. I read somewhere that there was also a 15lb 11oz small-eyed ray caught in the UK over the weekend, also a potential British record fish. However the guy who caught it decided to release it instead of killing it to claim the record. I'll see if I can find the link and post it up.

i know of a guy who speared a 16lber off a beach down here so i guess there around, just a case of putting in the hours. the water was very murky the same day and he thought it was a mullet... he was quite distraught when he saw it was a bass...
