Was out in Ferrybank yesterday evening and saw a couple of anglers bag up on mackerel, they were down by the mussel boats, not even casting just dropping into water. As i drove back into town i saw the gulls diving on the other side of the bridge it was then I noticed mackerel breaking in the Holy Ground. Never seen them so far up river before.

was up at Portrush on Wednesday 17th Sept. Nothing for the first hour then had about 10 macks in 10 minutes. Caught about 10 the previous Friday. Plenty of others were catching too.

Was at carnsore the last few nights... not a sniff of mack.
The odd one here & there (2 in 2hrs), but nothing like what it was weeks ago. Was talking to a guy who tried Rostoonstown 3 nights in a row and completely blanked.
Maybe the calmer weather this week might encourage them back in and give us one final blast to fill the freezer before the winter.. :o

Hello,
I happily filled my freezer from Kinsale a few weeks ago, haven't been looking for macks since.
I have a buddy who wants to get his youngsters out for some at the weekend. He's about an hours drive from Youghal, Ballycotton Cobh etc.
Does anyone know are there any macks being caught from the shore, Youghal to Kinsale area at the moment??

Cheers

Hello,
Time to 'un-sticky' this thread now I guess.

Here's some info from all shore reports since April to now.
Not really scientific, and it's probably only useful comparing one year to another,

Image

The percentage of shore reports that had macks included since the middle of April is around 25% (about 200 out of 800 odd).

Was chatting to some Japenese sailors last Wed in Galway docks. They had a box of around a 100 mackerel who (unlucky for them) got locked in when the harbour gates were closed. Good catches still being taken from Nimmos pier too.
