Re: Mackerel reports '09 here.....
i was heading out to my co. antrim mark yesterday and as i was passing through drains bay there was a mass of gull activity half way between the shore and the maidens. the gulls were diving in big numbers so at a guess i'd say it was likely macks forcing fry of some sort to the surface. i was taken back by the sheer numbers of different birds diving and circling overhead
if only i had a boat my freezer would be full

Few macks caught tonight at coliemore, nothing to crazy but steady 2's and 3's for about an hour or so! I bagged 8 and the lads beside me easily got 20 between them! The guys on the rocks further round the corner caught nothing!

Re: Mackerel reports '09 here.....
There was a shoal of mackerel on the rampage in Lough Hyne, West Cork, yesterday.
I know you are not supposed to remove any fish from the lough as it is a nature preserve but does that apply to mackerel?
I reckon they probably got in during the warm weather the week before last and probably havn't found their way out yet and are eating their way through the small juvenile fish population.
