50 lb shock leader is only good for 5 ounce leads,i would use 60/80 lb ultima powerflex or suffix.imho 50lb.shock leader is just not enough for casting, one little nick in the leader and you could have major problems.always better to be safe than sorry!!!!!!!

zeke i use a bimini twist knot ,very strong and i have never had any problem with it,its a bit tricky to learn but with practise it gets far easier.do a google search for it,there are lots of sites showing the knot.john

zeke its one of those knots the more you do it the easier it gets, and its a good strong shock leader knot.

the spider hitch is easier than the bimini and just as strong you can see it been done on the total sea fishing website

sakuma tapered shock leader is the biz! 18-70lb tapered from .37 to .74 helps keep the knot very small.

granted the bimini twist knot is good... but imho its alot of effort and a nightmare when fishing

instead of one turn of the purple line i use 2.. great knot

spider hitch for strenght and ease of tieing on the beach :D the twist is just too much effort in my opinion- well and good if you can tie it.

Drennan Greased Weasal LB is hard to beat for power casting.

there is no need for a bimini twist for attaching a shock leader. the knot is a spring and used to take the shock of a big game fish hitting a trolled lure. as the leader line itself takes the shock on casting so the smallest linear knot that still retains a good bit of line strength is a better option, quicker to tie too!
